Aloha I have a 1984 westy with a 1.9 washer ox er which way do you turn the idle screw to increase idle ?
I’m not hearing any difference going either way. Just replaced the rubber boot and I’m chasing idle issues. Figured I start there
Thanks for the help

Screw the adjustment screw outward/counter clockwise, to increase the amount of bypass air, which increases the idle speed[ usually, but apparently not in your case] Screw clockwise to decrease the bypass air on the throttle.
So, really check all those hoses that tee into the new Intake Boot carefully, esp down by the Aux Air Valve under the boot, in case just flexing things during R&R of the boot cracked a brittle hose or knocked it off a part/fitting.
IF, you were idling okay before the intake boot[even if it was cracked] hopefully we can get you back to that status... Cool
Also, is your throttle fully closing and the idle position switch showing a good reading for that closed throttle at idle[ you only need an ohm meter to verify this]

The stickies here should have info on how to trouble shoot and correctly adjust idle on the Digijet engine.

If you don't have a Bentley manual, there should be an active download link in this forum for the Digijet pro training manual.

Are you turning the (big) screw on the throttle body or the (smaller) screw on the AFM?

I’m pretty good at adjusting idle rpm by “Ear” on a type1 and type4 engines. However when I was making adjustments on the 1.9 wbx I couldn’t “Hear” it change rpm. When I would put my timing light on (With tach) I could see it change rpm.

The 1.9 has a programmed rpm value. So if you attempt to adjust it, the van is compensating. That’s why I asked what rpm it idles at and what rpm your shooting for.

If your talking about adjusting idle mixture, the same thing is going on. The ECU will attempt to keep the mixture to spec.

Idle circuit and mixture can be adjusted out of spec if you disable some features.

So Betty will idle after warmup so what’s my next step in checking ? Replace all vacuum lines and intake boot. What should I check next in the quest for idle after cold start?

Auxiliary air regulator controls idle during warm up.
