I'm trying to replace my rear hatch on my 76 camper. I've got a early hatch that the mounting holes are about 1 inch to far up on the side. My questions are 1. Can I make this hatch work. 2. What year hatches do I need to look for if I can't fix this one. Any help would be appriciated

Whatever you do, don't kill yourself by taking the torsion springs off the hinges trying to swap them. Rear doors are a dime a dozen so find the right one. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

Welll......I guess you could change the hinges to make an early hatch fit a late bus but as SG says that's like poking a dragon with a stick, use extreme caution!. I've never tried it myself so I can't confirm it would work, personally I'd find a 72+ hatch rather than messing with those springs. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

So has anybody replaced the rear hatch on a bus before with one from another bus? If so can I get some ideas as to what years are compatible? I've got a '76 P22 Camper so do I have to find a '76 hatch or can I use '75-'79?

In general there are 2 hatches, early (pre Type 4 motor/air intakes) and late. The 2 are NOT interchangable due to the hinge arrangement and latch location. The early one may even fit late splitties.
There may be some other detail differences as far as the trims, locks, etc. but they should at least fit within those 2 types. For your '76, any '75-'79 will be perfect, maybe as early as 72.
