This is Larry the Bug owner. If anyone has any question about what an angel looks like, just go to the pic of Mike welding inside the Bug. This restoration is beyond my dreams, and I don't know how I can ever repay Mike. His talent is beyond belief. Thanks for all the encouraging comments! Nothing gets in your blood like an aircooled VW.

Wow, what a goof couple of guys! Wish there were more people in this world like them. Great work my man! I just bought a 64' Beetle a few days ago. It is my first VW. I've got a ton of work to do with it, but you inspire me to bust through the rust for that shiny metal. Good job!

I dont know about an angel, maybe a rust devil...I appreciate all the awesome comments. Only thing I ask is that you and Andrea bring this little 67 to all our car cruise nights an enjoy the hell out of it. There are never enough air-cooled V-dubs there.

Little bit of eye candy...
Larry is originally from the great state of Texas and so is his car. If you have been following along so far, you will recall from the beginning of this story, I reported that Larry bought this car in 1970 from the original owner...well this license frame was on the Bug when purchased new and has never left it.
The story even gets better...this exact license frame even fell off the car years back while going down the road and a nice lady chased Larry down to tell him it had fallen. There are still good people left in the world.
How 'bout that for a story!

Frame all freshened up

The body is currently at a buddy's body shop getting painted. It keeps getting pushed to the side so progress has been slow.

Thanks for the kudos.
Car is still in the body shop...just checked two days ago and they "guauranteed" me it would be done by the first of the year. We'll see.
If you all want, I'll try and get down there and snap some progress pics for everyone that's been following this build, just let me know.

Small update.
Just paid for the shop supplies (primer, paint, etc) that were FINALLY ordered and are waiting at the shop.
Unfortunately no pics yet...car is still covered up, but progress is supposed to resume next week. I told them to holler when they start back on it so I can get you guys some photos.
Fingers crossed!

It's interesting how guys are saving cars like this and other people are completely dismantling a lot nicer finds to turn them into something they are not. Rolling Eyes

Yeah, it hurts me to see that. I get the "it's your car, do what you want" mentality as long as no irreversible damage is done. There are a finite number of these vehicles to go around and its important that we preserve as many as possible.

Progress has been slow but has finally started again at the shop. Work has begun on the crushed areas damaged by the vandals.
The right rear fender has been hammer and dollied back out and has a thin coating of filler ready for primer.

The worst part of the whole car was the crushed roof, which had many waves from the stretched metal. They were able to get it straight enough meticulously working it by hand with a body hammer, dolly and a slap file.
Alber's Auto Body has been around many years and have the real, "Old School" talent that is needed in cases like this.
