Found an old video of Larry's bug right after the refresh...thought I'd post it.

That's a nice car. I love 67's. I own one now, and have owned a few others in the past.

Also had to fix a banging noise from the rear over bumps. Turned out to be a broken Z bar link.

Nobody makes the down links so I located a good used one. I sandblasted and painted all the other components and ordered all new rubber from Wolfsburg West.
Should be good to go for many years down the road.

Had to upgrade the dash speaker to match the new 200W stereo.
In an attempt to keep the old bug looking stock and the fact that Larry doesn't need much volume...I'll just add a coaxial speaker in the stock location.

I took an old stock VW speaker and gutted it.

Then I welded extenders to it to space the new speaker back from the dash a little to clear it's protruding tweeter...(heh heh heh, did I just say protruding tweeter? Laughing )

New speaker mounted and hidden in the stock location.

Installed a Custom AutoSounds radio in the Bug today.

It's a little wider than the Sapphire V that was in it but still fit the stock location good. I ran the aux cord in to the glove box

The face was almost dead on in width with the stock unit.
Actually fit real nice and definitely has a retro look.

I have Larry's 67 Beetle over here for a week or so with a minor list of things to do including modern radio in the glove box and new seat belts.

This resto was finished just about 5 years ago and it's still looking good!
Oh and this Beetle isn't a garage/trailer queen...Larry drives this thing everywhere and all the time.

It really isnt that hard. I'm sure if you did a search on the Samba you would find a step by step on how to clean the metal and glue carpet in.

Santa was good to Larry this year and brought a set of white walls down the chimney.
Larry told me that his car was originally equipped with white walls way back when he bought it in 1970 and the birth certificate confirms that it rolled off the assembly line with them so an era correct set is befitting.

I didn't think to do anything special for the 50th birthday for my car.
It's likely I took it out for a beating on the road. The old car loves a nice hard drive as well as I like driving it hard on the wine country roads here.

To all of the 67's Happy 50th Birthday!

Having a bug that nice is reason enough to through a party, very creative use for the ringer style washing machine, my grandmother used hers until she passed away in 1993. Not as a cooler though.
