PSA: cellphones are dangerous! This ^^ is a result of trying to recover a phone that slid off the seat. passanger side front wheel caught the edge of he road and pulled it into the ditch. The ditch had a steep embankment which sent the car into a roll (four times). Thankfully he has recovered after a five day stay in the ICU.

That's a disturbing image. Were you in it at the time? Where did they bury the dump truck driver?

Cell phones are not dangerous. Inattentive drivers are dangerous.

Yeah, I was sitting there frantically trying to get it in to reverse as this wall of steel was heading to me at about chin level. The driver of the truck was almost crying.

Shame on me Embarassed ... You are 100% correct!!!! I'm almost always preaching that inanimate objects are not to blame for the way people use them Wink Thank you for pointing that out! (I hope my friends don't catch wind of my indiscretion) lol

Geez. That sucks. Being there is worse somehow. I think I'd relive that experience in my nightmares, forever.

All good info about contacting Police, and having the vehicle towed to a known secure place. I have had the "towing company the Police use" want to take a car to their yard, which was about 30 minutes away. I basically flat out told them there will be serious problems if you hook up to this car. I called a towing company I knew, and took the car about 5 miles to a friends shop. Also like mentioned, you sometimes have to be a real dick at the time of the incident to get things handled your way. I know some that have emergency info in the glove box, an "in case of an accident" statement. It has emergency contact info for relatives, and info where to transport the vehicle.

The standard insurance companies all turn totaled vehicles over to auction houses, and you must be the winning bidder to get your car back. I feel this is total BS. My local Hagerty rep said that a policy could be written up with an agreed percent of the totaled damage, say 10-20%, that could then be used to buy the vehicle back if totaled. Say you have a $10k policy, and your vehicle gets totaled. If you agreed to a 10% buy back fee, you could buy your vehicle back for $1000, and not have it go to auction. Basically they would be giving you your vehicle back with $9000, the $10k of the policy, minus the $1000 buy back fee. This was the way all insurance companies were until State Farm got greedy about 8-10 years ago. I have seen vehicles sold at auction for more than the totaled amount. Something to think about if you want your vehicle back. If I survive the accident, I'm getting the car back, regardless of condition.

I'm being presumptuous here but I'd wonder if someone ran a light here or the bugs light turned green, the bug didn't look before entering the intersection and the semi ran the light, impacting the bug.

I see this happen all the time. People sit at a traffic light and wait for the light to turn green for them to enter the intersection. The light turns green and they just go w/out looking or ensuring that the cross traffic stopped. They then get t-boned in a bad accident when the person who was texting ran the light.

Everett lives in Phoenix and my wife and I have really noticed a trend here in Phoenix. People are REALLY running red lights right after they turn red. It use to be maybe one car would keep going after the light turned red. Now, 4-5 cars keep going after the light turns red. Scary.
