also picked up a NICE Super beetle Dash out of a 78 Convertible - no cracks! but after taking this dash out of the donor car I'm not sure I want to take my dash out of the 73. i might just live with the small crack or top it with a dash topper.

found some surface rust under the Gas tank which I'll take care of :

I'm leaning forward to a Total Respray of the body, . the Fenders and front hood have to be resprayed as well as the Quarters I have repaired.

I just wanted to save the Original Paint as much as possible.

Happy Saint Patricks day folks. be safe !

Just so you know, the vent ducting for '73's was one year only and '74+ was different. You can install the dash from the '78, you just have to change things around.

yep thats a hardtop for my 68 Roadster. It came with the car but I Never use it . Its more of a Pain cause I have to store it! I've had to kick the vette , truck, motorcyles and lawn tractors out of the Big garage and into the House Garage to make room for this project. the VW is taking over! I have to move even more out if I decide to actually Paint the bug in this garage.

It's looking good non the less. Keep up the progress shots.

If you haven't already, check out http://www.superbeetlesonly.com/ Look for a member there, Bill Sills, I think he goes by 73sports. He's rebuilt a couple of sports bugs.

Stock springs were always gloss black.
All of mine have also had hand painted red stripes to indicate the spring rate.

Those red ones are lowered springs.

wetsanded the Body with 600 grit Sunday and Sprayed 2 more coats of Clear on top yesterday. looks a lot better !

only needs a few spots looked after - more light sanding and buff sometime.

I am realy Tired of Sanding ! It's amazing how much sanding it takes to paint an automobile. and this one really wasnt that rough to begin with!

and to buff it Im going to have to SAND It some more !..

Its been a learning experience though and I have enjoyed it thus far. I'll say that preperation is the key to a paint job and learning a fair understanding of the process.

I havent painted a car since the 80's when I painted my old 74 914 - Single Stage PPG. Products and process have changed much. Yes I wish I had the old 914 Back indeed!.

Happy Holidays folks!
