Yeah, I am going to build a duct from the emblem to the motor. When you look through the emblem you should be able to see the fan, or some of it. Here is a picture of the emblem.

Since your project is not truly a 4x4 splitty, but a splitty welded on top of another chassis, for the sake of accuracy please change the title of the thread.
It is no more "A true 4x4 Splitty" than the top of a bus welded onto a jeep chassis is. The 4x4 part is not a splitty by any stretch.
It's your custom project.
Just call it what it is, not what it's not. |

at this point i doubt anybody is confusing this pinzgauer based 4x4 with VW bus, i think splitzgauer is a cool (air cooled) project, if it were to get renamed i would not be able to find it anymore _________________ regards

At my age, the same would be true if they renamed my street. Thank god for consistency. _________________ Looking for a correct 1967 rear seat

Actually, he didn't say the 4x4 part was a splitty. If you drop a Corvair engine in a splitty, is it not still a splitty? Granted, it's not a stock splitty, but I grant him "splitty" status...so says I., so be it! _________________ Looking for a correct 1967 rear seat

Sold my Corvair a few months ago, otherwise I'd swap the two motors just for shits n' giggles. _________________ Looking for a correct 1967 rear seat

Hi Clara, Thanks for visiting.
I believe my project to be a "True 4x4 Splitty" If I welded it to a Jeep frame, I would call it what it is and name it Monster Bus or something appropriate.
The reason I see this as a " true 4x4 Splitty" is the relationship between Steyr Puch and Volkswagen. In 1985 when VW wanted a four wheel drive van, they went to Steyr Puch and contracted them to build it, and bam, the world renowned Syncro Vanagon was born. Why Steyr Puch? Maybe because of there history of success with the Pinzgauer. So I am just building an era correct 4x4 bus that VW and Steyr Puch might have built in the late 60's vs the mid 80's
So thanks for the recommendation but I will not be changing the name of my thread. It is my opinion that it is titled accurately. You are welcome to hang out here and I hope after my explanation it changes your view on the project. And if not eh, I will still sleep tonight. _________________ Rocky Mountain Westy Inc.

I just checked out your thread. That is going to be a cool ride.
Man, I am so glad I didn't have to do all that rust repair. Good Job! _________________ Rocky Mountain Westy Inc.

Ya, you are creating a dream car.
Other people have created 'fantasy buses' where they take options that were actually available and welded them together.
A common example is a 21 window roof welded onto a hardtop bus. These are known as 'faux' 21 window buses.
They may be known as '19 window buses' if the last pair of windows in not installed.
'faux' means 'fake', not 'true'
That is because it was created by someone with an idea and a welder, not factory made. I'm surprised you didn't realize that a faux 21 is not considered the same as a real one.
It's just best not to call it a real one.
You are making a 4x4 splitty, a faux 4x4 splitty.
It is just not a true one.
(Whether or not it is a splitty is a different question. Does that depend on the % of metal coming from where? by weight? or perhaps what VIN is used? anyhow, that was Ken's question)

Well Clara,
I politely invited you to join and provided some history to my point of view. I don't really see your point of view, but that is ok. I would prefer to not clog my thread up with controversy or justification of your point of view.
So now I will politely ask you to leave and not come back.
Thanks to those who are supporting the project. _________________ Rocky Mountain Westy Inc.
