No sign of an o ring. If I get one that is approximately 1 5/8", I assume it just rides on the intake tube, and the filter portion (top part) just rests on top of it?
I have a slightly later Knecht filter, and the intake has an obvious shoulder at the top where an o ring would sit. The Mann does not appear to have any obvious shoulder, but does have a distress- or wear- line where an o ring could have sat. |

That doesn't look like a common o ring... Anyone know where I might find one of those? _________________ Plate of shrimp |

I matched up my old one at my True Value Hardware store a couple of years ago, it's still doing fine. It is not a "O" ring |

Has anyone seen an air cleaner with two decals? The decals also have a total of 4 different languages. This is the original filter on my 55 oval, and it’s dated 2/55.

I post a couple of photos of a very strange (for me) situation.
I realized I had 2 air filters exteriorilly identical but different inside.
The main difference is, in the lower part, the vertical pipe size and shape.
On the small one the pipe is narrower and has an edge to seat an oring.
On the larger one the pipe is bigger and no edge.
On my stock 1200 the bigger gives the same performance but adds a sort of audible "scream" at 2500-3000 rpm.
The narrower sounds a bit quiter.
I did not found that evidence in this thread... are perhaps those filters only for the italian market?
p.s. don't care for wiring from filter, I'm testing a solenoid to governate flap action depending on temperature. |

What the heck is this? It doesn’t resemble any of the other air cleaners I’m seeing, part number ends with 611 and a letter i cant make out. It is on a 40hp in my daughters 1960 bug.
Found this inside a bug we just scored.
And, this one inside also. According to this thread, looks correct for my daughters 1960 bug.

Looks like "611 G" probably 1961 beetle. You can look up part numbers in the original VW dealer type 1 parts manual here:
http://www.oacdp.org/
Type 1 manual for now is available thru the "Upcoming" button at the top... _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

That’s it. Thanks for the response. Looks like the previous owner replaced the 36hp in my daughters 60 with a very early 40HP with the original air cleaner. I was thinking about removing that engine and finding an original date correct 36hp, but if this 40hp turns over.....i might try to save it.
Thanks again. |

What about this air cleaner on an 1960 Beetle is it correct? It doesn't seem to fit because the flat spot side is too tight to the fan shroud, could this just be my manifold on wrong or should I turn it with it's flat spot away from the shroud so it fits.
111.129.611B
My 36hp engine shown here with a 40 horse air cleaner which fits fine except there is no place for a breather hose on the 36hp oil fill. Also there is no warm air hook up.

Could be the intake upper pipe was bent forward. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

That is not the correct one, the one from Navydave73's post that should be on an '60 Beetle

Here's a picture of my Beetle with the correct one

The weight keeps intake closed from outside air while idleing drawing in heated air from the pre heat hose/tube. When you give it some gas (hit the fast pedal) the suction opens the intake weight. |

I don't know, if it belongs here, if not, please advice me.
I was searching for the seal 113 129 625 A for the early 40 hp air cleaner and could not find it in all of the online beetle stores in Europe. But VW Classic Parts sells them:
