Hi,
I just picked this thing up for 2 grand, and it also came with a spare swing axle tranny, a hood, '67 deck lid, '67 doors, and a bunch of other body parts including a complete '67 wiper motor and assembly, and '67 operating door handles. The paint on the inside is original and in good shape. The seats are in remarkable shape, the headliner is okay, and it has the original rubber floor mats. I'm pretty sure it's mostly original, and it is relatively solid. There isn't cancerous rust (yet), but what rust there is needs to be addressed immediately or it will become cancerous. The color is Zenith Blue. I'm not a big fan of the color. I'd rather it be Ruby Red or black. Do you think it would be okay - from a vintage resto perspective - to paint it another color from that year? Give me any other thoughts you have, too. Thanks!
Errrgh! I'll post pics later when I figure out how to do it on this site.
EDIT: This site needs a way to post pics from one's computer without having to upload pics to another site to post here. Too much hassle.

I would keep it the stock color. Worth more in the long run. Congrats on the 67!

But isn't the original paint color code on the car somewhere (I've been unable to find this)?

There already is a way. If it's VW related you can post directly from your computer to the gallery.

yes. original paint code was printed on a piece of paper that was silver with black letting. how long would a piece of paper last under front hood near shelf for brake fluid resivoir? some beetles still have the paper there, but few.

Hmm, okay. If I went with black/red it would probably cost a lot more money: Paint inside and out, change the upholstery (the black basket weave still looks really good, no tears, etc.) But, it is a thought. I like the idea, just the $$ is problematic...

I am working on a 67 right now that looks like the same color. I wasn't nuts about it at first, but its growing on me. Nice car - have fun, but get schooled on the one year only 67 stuff - theres a thread on here somewhere.

Zenith Blue is a great color, also somewhat rare? Give it time, good chance you will come to prefer the original color. It's a fun challenge to make your original bugs stand out

Unless you are planning on tearing it all down right away, give it a little time as mentioned. I hated the beryl green on our 61 when we got the car, but could not even consider changing the color anymore. Really like it now.

Dee's car is EXACTLY what I want to build! I just picked up a set of used Flat-4 BRMs, 2005 production year, for $600. My car has a couple of stressful problems, though. It looks like the rear was hit and the apron and the bottom/back of the rear fenders have been pushed in. Also, the door hinges have been tweaked. Looks like $$ for body work is adding up. Any tips on how to repair this stuff myself?

I had the same dilemma. I couldn't decide whether to paint my '67 black or keep it Zenith blue. I had already done the seats black Wolfsburg West basket weave and didn't want the expense of re-doing them red.
So, I painted it Zenith Blue and I'm happy with it. Plus, I've had black cars. They look good, but are a pain to keep up.

Thanks andk5591.
Here's my repainted Zenith Blue '67. No engine in it yet, so the back looks high.
