Normally we set up the tent (bay) but the awning is nice if just overnight. Swapped out the ARB for a TransAwn 2000.
Yesterday at San Mateo
The wife was checking out my buddy’s vanagon, now she wants a poptop for the kids to sleep...dormobile anyone?
Carpinteria a month ago with the arb awning....was super nice but just didn’t look the part

Also, is that a Dormobile top to go on your bus? _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

Hey Pyro! This is Thornhill-broome state campground, Ventura county. No showers, and only porta-potties but all the sites are on the sand. It’s pretty sweet, except we were attacked by mosquitoes in the morning.
The wind picked up a bit in the afternoon and made it a bit chilly, so we decided to have dinner inside the bus since the kids were with their grandparents. We had never actually done this before and it was quite cozy and cool...I felt like the dude in that one Westfalia ad you always see...
And yes that is a dormy top! I had a wanted ad up and got a couple responses. This was the best location wise, so we drove up and grabbed it. Also got some kind of German rack thrown in. I’ve read your dormy thread about 5 times now and really appreciate the documentation! I can’t wait to get it fitted. |

Pretty simple set-up but it worked well for a couple of weeks of travel. Finally got 2 inches of foam as a bed and it is now very comfortable. We like to look at the stars through the back window.
The 3000 mile trip is described in the thread "Trips Over 1000 Miles"

Man this thread is making me Jones for the outdoors! Need to do quite a bit of work on my '64 splittie, but hope to have her "campable" in time for Bulli Brigade in Nov. |

We did 4 nights up at El Capitan SB at the end of March...had a site that was right on a little creek on the lower loop.
I took this pic standing in the creek. |

Went out for a couple of nights by Lake Ontario but it rained relentlessly. The two of us with bus/vans (one was a Dodge) could make it work with electric heat inside the space. At least you could play cards. The couple in a tent found it less than acceptable.
I finally sorted out canoe tie-downs. It did not budge despite heavy side winds that pushed the bus around on the road. |
