|
|
1984 van.
The vanagon wobbles at low speed the only way I can describe it is if I was driving in a very tight S grooves cut into the ground like ruts. So it shakes side to side, this happens at 5-10mph. At around 50+ there is pretty bad vibration.
I've replaced a worn tie rod this helped a lot, and all the ball joints.
The only other thing I can think of is the wheels need to be balanced? Or the other tie rod is on its way out.
Any ideas? |

You could have busted cord in your tire, a bent rim, or a tire that isn't seated properly. Run your hands lightly over each tires tread and see if you feel any bumps or depressions. Also jack each corner up and spin the wheels looking for any sign of wobble or run out. |

You could switch the tires, fronts to the back, and if the problem changes that would point to the tires as culprits. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

I would be curious as to the suspension components life... when they were replaced last?
Perhaps some proactive maintenance is in order! |

When the symptom first started a couple weeks ago the first thing I did was check the tire and made sure the tread was in order and that the wheel wasn't loose.
Upon closer inspection today I found a bulge in the tread and sidewall.... GREAT |

At least it didn't blow out while you were driving. And tires are an easy (although not cheap) fix. Just be sure to check out this thread
