Now, here is a little bit of trivia for all of you: What VW appears on The Castafiore Emerald? |
Billions of bilious blue-blistering barnacles in a thundering typhoon! That's a trick question- there's NO VW in that Tintin comic book. I have it (and many more); just checked it carefully twice. "IRMA! My jewels!" |

The Deal's Wheels are the best, and that one looks amazing.
I'm working on a variation of a Deal's Wheels right now. Pictures soon. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

First reaction: Cool - I want that!
Then: 71 Euros ~ $85? #!#!&**##!
Its a nice kit but I think I would just use 2 kits, or one kit and use the rest to invest in some resin casting supplies. |

Here's a rare bird. This is the Revell Li'l Herbie the Love Bug Rides Again model kit from 1974. It was offered as a tie-in to Herbie Rides Again, which was a sequel to The Love Bug. The kit was actually a modified version of the Deal's Wheels Volkswagen, and was intended for beginning builders. This kit is a holy grail of Herbie collectors, and was built as a special request.
I'll be doing things a little differently this time, and posting the build photos after the finished photos. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

I like it. It reminds me of a melting snow-cone, or maybe one of the last piles of snow at the end of my driveway!
I missed out on the Deal's Wheels kit when they came out in the 70's (but not Dave Deal), so I appreciate seeing some of the rare versions that were released. Now I know that if I ever find one in my travels to be sure to pick it up. |

As promised, here are the build photos for the Revell Li'l Herbie.
I started with a nearly complete unbuilt kit. It had one molding flaw in the roof that I fixed with plastic from a regular
Revell Herbie kit, to keep the DNA! This flaw may have been the reason it was never built.
Repairs underway.
I felt Herbie needed a driver, so I chose Goofy, because he and Herbie had a close kinship in Disney stage shows.
I felt bad taking the Dremel to him.
The interior and chassis come together.
The engine was modified from a Deal's Wheels kit.
Sunroof painted and decals installed.
The final product. The last time I built one was in 1974!

wow ! great herbie, i did not realize goofy did not come with it, nice touch
now for something completely different -
falcon update, i never build a model in order, i like to jump around, now i am building the cargo for the holds, i wanted a mix of drums, crates, and vw and porsche parts, note i put a vw hood emblem on the front, pretty cool i think, porshe parts include 356 transaxles, 4 cam heads, vw parts include sumps, starters, valve covers, air cleaners, flywheels and weber carbs,,, i made barrels on the lathe, then made silicone molds so i can cast as many as needed, i made 55 gallon drums (note middle bands and top chime ring) other drum as a large top, like it is for holding powders or something,i also make hexagonal drum, with top chime, and some other round drum like things, turned out pretty nice i think
so if you ever need some 1:72 scale drums,,, hit me up

Yes, because I'd like to build at least two more of these at some point, I spent some time on ebay trying to find two more figures. This is not an easy Goofy to find!
It's cheaper to buy toy figures in lots just to get Goofy than to buy just Goofy alone! I'll have all these other figures that I can use for different things (or just give to the grandkids).
Also, your different thing is different! I'm sure we'll understand it better when it comes together. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

Sticking to the topic of Deal's Wheels, here's a Van I worked on. This one was already painted and partly built, so I just put
on the final touches (such as Van man's tattoos).
Note the "3.6 hp" engine (insterad of 36 hp), which is what it seems like. The kit comes with a magnifying glass, so you can see the tiny thing.
Van Man's bubblehead tattoo!
I've been an a bit of a logo bus kick lately, so I'm thinking about possible logos to add. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

Wow - I completely missed out when these originally came out. I take it that is an original kit, vintage 1970's? |

Actually it was reissued in both 1996 and 2008. This is the most recent reissue. The only difference from the
original is the color it's molded in.
Here's one I built for a friend from an original 1971 kit. I was trying to duplicate the box art.

I just finished the Rye Field Models 1/35 scale Type 82 Kommanderwagen.
RFM is known for their quality kits and this was on par with their armor kits. I built their Tiger including the 968 individual pieces for the tracks. This kit is a little simpler
