I'm somewhat impressed by the effort and skill required to make cutouts in a single sheet to just clear a randomly lumpy thing like an engine, I don't approve of the intent, but if you've ever tried to eyeball cutouts for stuff like that it's an impressive job. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I actually remember people doing or buying that tin back in the 80’s cal look days. On beetles, though. _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far

hey at least they understand that a tightly sealed engine compartment is essential to the life of the engine..
soooo much better than those I see at VW shows w/o any tin whatso ever under the engine lid...
what it needs cooling tin? it didn't come with any.. the guy was a VW guru.. _________________

That's how we used to get our beaters inspected up here in the rust belt. Shoot the holes in the rockers full of foam, skim with bondo, rattle can to match. |

Ha, I've seen newspaper show up under bondo in some restoration threads, too! _________________ Two Bugs-

Doesn't look like the second one has sled tins either. Add in a possibly aftermarket shroud without vanes or louvers. |

I dunno, maybe i'm olde fashioned but this seems odd to me |
Supremely odd, total gimmick, massively overpriced, fragile. Can't imagine it wouldn't slip horribly.
It being for engines with generators only make me think it doesn't like having pulleys of significantly different sizes.
Not inspiring to see the way the tensioner bounces so much, plus don't like how its spring is anchored to the fuel-pump stud.

Gotta be a mess to replace the oil filters. |
Maybe. Plenty of modern cars have filters like that (usually just one) and are very easy and tidy to change. I am guessing it helps to have a relief valve at the bottom of that filter housing, so oil has a chance to mostly drain out of the filter before you remove it.
|
Your picture is of a Subaru... I have 2 of them. There's flanges around the filter that all the oil drips into.
Most filters have a anti-drainback valves so they are not empty at startup. There's oil in the filter and with that double mount, it will run down the engine. |
of course Glenn drives a Subaru |
