I know it is likely a reflection, but it appears to have either lightning or cobwebs from the coil to the distributor. I prefer to think its lightning! |
That's not lightning, it's the badass, it's so strong it's visible. The orange manifold ends surely add at least 5 hp as well. |
We could all use more badass in our lives. And 5 hp. _________________ nothing |

Wow! Either the water wasn't in there long or some additive lent a protective coating to the parts! What's the backstory on this?
That sludge is pretty funky-looking, is it metallic-grainy or something else? _________________ Two Bugs-

I think the water was in there a long time. I got the engine out of a 411 in the junkyard and the dipstick was out. I think water came in there, possibly there for decades. I guess some oil settled to the top and protected it. I was very lucky for sure _________________ 1964 sunroof Beetle Restoration "Herbie"

I thought that was heat wrap on the j-tubes, then I realized it's 9 welded joints!
That's a lot of work to save $25! |

That's what I was thinking too. Or maybe a gyrocopter or a fanboat? The exhaust makes me think it would have been facing the rear of whatever it was powering. _________________ 1973 Superbeetle: 1st car, owned since age 12. Huh, what do you think the random fluid-bottle laying atop the battery is for?
Hmm, on the positive side it appears to have the flaps in the shroud, and yet the heater-boxes are naked and have been for who knows how long!
Definitely doesn't fit the 'Condition: 2 (very good)' category.
Odd that this person has been a member so long (since 2004) and this is their first-ever activity too.
I'd buy it for 15% of that price if it was local, like I paid for four of the five semi-complete engines I've picked up over the years.
No way I'd be shipping a mystery engine from coast-to-coast at any price though! _________________ Two Bugs-
