I would also be glad to hear you're ok, but it is NOT clear you are yet.
Have you had ANY headaches at all since the accident?
How long has it been?
What diagnostics did you receive at what medical facilities and when?
That is a lot more important than your Van or scars. |
Yep, I have a concussion and have had a sore noggin' all day. I was seen at Grande Ronde in La Grande about 2 hours after the accident. I got checked out because I was feeling really nauseous/completely out of it and I remember this from the last concussion. My pupils were off when they checked them out. This will be concussion #3... I'm thinking I should just walk around with a helmet on at all times. _________________ 1987.5 wolfsburg hardtop; 2.1

You want to go visit a hospital in PDX and talk to a MD there.
Write down everything with dates and approx. times, including how you felt
Go over it with the doctor.
Head injuries can cause internal bleeding indie the skull. If taken care of that can cause no problems. If not taken care of, the problems can extremely serious.
The best thing if you have a sore noggin at this time would be for you to go to the ER right now. _________________ 1986 2.1L Westy 2wd Auto Trans. |

Thanks for the concern, mate
I think I'll befriend an icepack all night along with some rest. I don't do well with "downtime" and have had a long last 24 hours. If I start feeling bad though, I'll be waiting in the Providence ER... me with no health insurance _________________ 1987.5 wolfsburg hardtop; 2.1

Seriously consider sleeping with someone tonight, even if they do not dig scars. Seriously. First 24 hours = highest risk. |

Yes be careful VG. 3 concussions puts you in the big league statistics. Not for now but far far far in the future you may want to consider giving your brain to the brain trust Brain bleeds can happen any time and more often than people think. You might want to put a 4 point racing harness on your drivers seat.
Hope you keep feeling fine. Thumbs up. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

I also have a non power drivers mirror you're welcome to if you want. My adventurewagen got sideswiped by a truck right before vacation one year and I bought that in case the driver didn't find me a power one in time. He actually found one at a dealer. Might be worth a few calls. _________________ 89 Syncro Westy - GW 2.5, now with a double knob job

I've got both front doors from a silver 88GL in my attic, been there for years.
I don't think there are any windows or trim on them...guess I could sell them.
Located south of Seattle.
PM me if you're interested. _________________ 86 Syncro|EJ253|Carat |

ouch!! I do buckle up all of the time, I SWEAR! Just not when I'm driving and stopping every 100 feet to snap photos on a slow, country road.

A few months ago I had my silver 1987 wolfsburg hauled away after parting out most of the things I thought were worth anything. The front doors were in good shape, the paint wasn't great but it was silver so it would have looked fine until you got around to making them perfect. They even had broken power mirrors on them. They looked fine but the power wasn't working. Still would have been a nice cheap fix for you.
I keep thinking of things I should have grabbed before it was gone. Oh well space is tight. |

Mornin' VermontGirl,
Just checking in to see how your noggin' is feeling today. Hope you're doing well and putting this mishap where it belongs, in your rear view.
Be well. _________________ '85 Wolfsburg Edition Westfalia Weekender, Zetec #36, w/ Peloquin TBD

DAIZEE - It's all good I really appreciate what you wrote. My response was to SCM's comment only because I'm a super safe driver and clearly feel like a complete idiot for not having my seatbelt on.
BoneMachine, thanks for checking in on me. My noggin is sore but everything felt better when kirsplat came through with a SILVER door for Esther! I'm so grateful for the VW/Samba community. Thanks again! (insert mushy heart with scars, here)
Now if only electric mirrors (USED, albeit) weren't so &@%$)&* expensive! _________________ 1987.5 wolfsburg hardtop; 2.1

Wowzer! In about 18 hours . . .
33 posts over 2 pages
multiple offers and leads on parts
good medical advice
invite to the adult beverage and Lucky Lab meetup
Lots of Samba love for VermontGirl!
Viva La Samba!

PS - Perhaps you may want to ditch the electric mirrors. How often do you adjust it, anyway? I have not touched mine in years. You may find that an "analog" mirror works fine. _________________ '86 Westy, 2.5 Subaru power

Word!!! I am totally feeling the love! Watch out @ the Lucky Lab... I'm a mushy/happy person when I'm buzzed
Yes... I'd be totally fine with an analog mirror for the driver side - especially because it would be easy to adjust from where I sit. I guess my hesitation is from this "mirror flapping" syndrome or whatever you call it that people complain about.
I found a place in Seattle (Absolute German Autowrecking) that seems to have a bunch of parts in stock. Maybe I'll visit while I'm picking up the door from kirsplat to get moulding/mirror. _________________ 1987.5 wolfsburg hardtop; 2.1

You should defintiley check with Avery's. There are in Woodland and you'll be driving right by them.

Glad you're feeling better. A couple summers ago, when we reversed down a steep hill doing a 3 point turn in utter blackness, we ended up headed uphill with the passenger side tires falling off the side of a steep cliff. I convinced the beloved driver to stop trying to escape, and we stopped the van with the Ebrake on and exited via the driver's side door. The van was being held up from falling off the cliff on the passenger's side by a kind tree. Said tree was wedged in the door pushing back the rear view mirror and after the tow truck pulled us back onto the road, we needed a new rear view mirror on that side.
Since we were near Morro Bay, and had a LONG drive home, we got a new analog mirror at GoWesty. Several months ago, GoWesty announced they were releasing a little doo-dad that prevented the mirror flop problem. I called them to see what they'd charge me and they just mailed them to me free of charge. They work pretty dang well. |
