To be honest, I don't want the bus back. VW will just screw it up like they did with the beetle. Besides, we had the vanagon and the eurovan and it wasn't the same and neither will any other attempt to revive the original bus in some retro style. What I would like to see is some quality manufactured parts. |

What the automotive industry needs to do is remove the ability for people to look at a GPS, tweet, update Facebook, or call people on the cell phone while driving. Maybe if they made cars that were fun, people wouldn't need to be distracted. And for good measure, bring back REAL KEYS. I'm sure, given the chance, VW would ruin the bus in a hot second. I would be happy if I never received another article in email, or never heard another stranger say "you know, they're gonna start making those again!" |

VWs are all torque. I could load any bus with literally 1000 pounds and not notice much of a difference in uphill power. This writer has never owned a bus. Top speed of 50? Maybe in 1952, maybe if loaded with over a half ton of goods... Idiots. _________________ The best things in life aren't Things

The more they extol the many virtues of the microbus, regardless of a few inaccuracies, the more the value increases.
It may just be coincidental, but of the 3 times I've driven mine in the past week, I've been approached twice asking if I was interested in selling it. |

Absolutely. There is a hunger right now for the simpleness of time long past. The microbus is just that thing, and I agree that prices and attention are quickly climbing.
Gone since 1980? Baywindows yeah, but splits? These know it all writers are so pathetic. _________________ Wanted : January '57 Palm Green Sand Green Bus Parts - Middle and Rear Seat Frames - flat back. I have original seat covers but would consider covered frames.

I think Automobile magazine has the right idea and, yes, VW could screw it up badly. However, if you started with a light commercial vehicle about the same dimensions as a split, kept it under 3000 pounds, put in a turbo-diesel and a manual transmission, and kept it under $25,000, I would be interested. I looked at the Dodge Sprinter when it first came out and it was too expensive. Still is. I will probably always have a sixties bus but I would look at the vehicle described above as a second vehicle for the family.

Had to laugh at ZOZO's comments about folks tryin' to buy his bus.
I took the wife to lunch last week and came back to find two separate
"buy" notes stuck under the wipers. ( lol)
One thing though...lovin' that '63 15 window they illustrated their piece
with. Other than the white wall tires looks like mine! |

Aside from the mere information about the article, I was thinking along the lines of what zozo said. When I have to part with my bus, I'm going to be thankful for any of the exposure to this trend that fills Moneybag's head with romantic notions of the Volkswagen Microbus as he pays for all of that provenance.
If I were going to write an article about a model of car, I would research online owners' forums and try to communicate with experts on that vehicle.
The blurb is another bit that drives up demand another bit; if I did not have a bus already, or needed many good parts, the article might have pissed me off.
I didn't care to start a thread about yearning. Volkswagen figures that you yearned a Bulli. |

MSN.com had an article on top 10 cars to survive a zombie apocalypse in, and the bus was one of them. _________________ 62 Standard Type 2 (Nothing Fancy)

On 50mph:
My '55 has a "top speed" of 48 mph, meaning there is a big red mark at 48 MPH that is supposedly the max speed.
The owner's manual says 80KPH (50 MPH):
It does 55 nicely though and I've hit 60 a few times for short periods.
It goes faster but it's LOUD, it really sounds like you are blowing it up.
The Bus they have pictured above looks like a '63 so 50 mph... maybe if you don't use 4th gear... _________________ How to Post Photos

Not so much feeding the trend, but some exposure in the mainstream automotive press.
