|
|
I found far more troubles in my newly purchased vw than expected, which has left me way past budget and a pissed off wife. I have rebuilt the motor, installed electronic ignition and went through just about everything. When i thought i was finished, i noticed issues with my Dellorto Single 45 carb. It seems to be sucking air at every shaft point, extremely lean on one side and loading up on the other. My engine Diesels and revs uncontrollably when there isnt a load. I tried to pull it apart and most of the brass screws are stripped out. I figured i would be better off replacing then trying to rebuild.
What would be a relevantly low cost option to get this car back on the road? I planned on going with a dual carb setup next spring, but cant afford that at the moment. The EMPI HPMX 44's fit my budget.
My engine is a 2007cc
New AS41 Case
78mm crank
Eagle 120 cam
Scat street performer heads 40x35.5
90.5 pistons
Hydraulic lifters
Autocraft rocker shafts with stock rockers
009 dist with electronic points
I am willing to get the one on it rebuilt, but it would have to be a quick turnaround. My wife gave me one more week to get one of the cars out of the driveway and i sure dont want it to be this one. |

Ah, the old "that car goes or I do" line. I'm sure you'll miss her but you put too much in to the car to quit now. _________________ CMC '57 Porsche Speedster Replica and Dolphin boat tailed full pan VW MOD-T Street Buggy |

you expect a relic car to be good?
and better yet a modified old car with relic dead carb?
your kidding , right,?
my wife has watched me restore many old cars and bikes
and never complains, in fact helps.
you have 2 paths
buy a new carb. ( i assume you dont want to spend big bucks on the old one, it sounds big time end of life to me.. im sure its worse inside.)
or go back to stock
only you know what is best path,?,,,, cost, , PITA factor, down time, etc. _________________ for sale now.

Check the classifieds for a rebuilt carb setup that would work for you. Or, find someone local who can rebush/ rebuild the carb you got. |

If it were me I would send the carb off to Art Tharen at ACE and see if he thinks it is worthy of a rebuild.
How are you providing this centermounted carb with heat anyway? |
