|
Hi all, for those of you who don't know me my name is Adam and I just picked up my first Volkswagen today. Today is also my 19th birthday so it's a nice present to myself haha. My plans for the car are to make it a driver and then work on the details later. Before anyone says slam it, I plan to keep it all stock . I look forward to bringing this car back to life and hope to meet other type 3 owners at some upcoming shows. Here are some pics.

My title is (25yearproject), and that is because of my own 1964 Notchback. Being a midwesterner, the rust is very different here. Until recently, there were not parts available, plus the internet has helped. Your car looks like it is all there, just needs love. Enoy the car, and there are a lot of helpful people on here. You will probably be on the road before me, good luck. _________________ "64 Notchback"S" |

Happy birthday. Today is my birthday, too. I have you beat by twenty years though.
Great choice on keeping it stock, in my opinion. Best of luck! _________________ Heath

A '64 should have a short nose chrome or no nose chrome. Your VIN should start 364...... on the rear tunnel & on the plate under the 'frunk' lid. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

I think you forgot those style VIN numbering didn't start until the 65 model year... my 64 starts 044... but depending on when in the year his is, it couls start back at 023...
Check your VIN against this http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/serialnumberst3.php

Nice score Adam. Wow, you went from looking at early beetles to buy, to buying a Notch.
Looks like a nice little project.

Yup, the VIN on my 64 T-4 starts with 039. A 314 (Notch body) number doesn't exist yet Mike. That was started in 65.
Adam, looks like a good start, and most of it is still there. I've started with less. See the top 2 links below. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

then there are 3 options:
1. you have a 68 made to look like a 64
2. someone put a 64 body on a 68 pan and changed the plate over
3. your car was ahead of its time in the vin world... and wrong too

0318xxx is correct for an early '64 Type 3 built in December 1963. |

That charts show the last car built in that particular month. |
