Well I'm in the process of building my 1954 oval and it's going pretty slow. My oval has been in the body/paint phase going on 2 years now. I came across this one owner 64 "s" notch that I just could not pass up and I just wanted a daily driver. As far as I can tell it is 90% original, the PO said it is the og motor and trans, the only thing that had been replaced was the steering column because they broke off the key and did not know how to fix it. It was resprayed and the interior was done about 20 years ago. He also said he thought that the dash cover was replaced at the same time. Well any help would be great, my first notch and I am excited to get started on it, my plan was to lower it alittle and put some brm's on it but looking at it now after my son and I cleaned it up stock just might be the way to go. The motor has been converted to a 1600cc and it is missing the air cleaner/ dual side draft carbs that I beleive are 32 solex's.

Looks awesome.
Any photos of the interior and engine?
You should put some original trim rings back on it. _________________ '54 Kombi | '57 356 Coupe | '57 Samba | '62 Notchback | '63 Beetle (36k Original Miles) | '66 Pigalle Sunroof Squareback | '70 Westy |

JSMskater, My first thought was to lower it and I just so happen to have a set of fuchs lying around. I did however replace the steering wheel with an early empi GTV one today. _________________ 64 "S" notch

I did find one thing that I need help with, I found a broken cable lying on the floorboard when I bought it, the PO told me it was for the pass seat when you open the door it releases and lets you move the pass seat forward so as to let a passenger get in the back? dealer option? are those cables hard to find? _________________ 64 "S" notch

I don't think it was a dealer option - but it was only for a few years IIRC. I have no clue how hard they are to find, my guess is if you want NOS, probably pretty tough. If you just need it working, it's probably not so bad. _________________ 71 Squareback-FI -- 73 Bay (subaru powered)

Beautiful find. My 66' fastback has the same release cable. I believe 66' was the last year for the seat release. Is the end piece broken off the cable? The release is held on with a with a wing nut I believe. |

Actually, those cables were thru '67, although I've seen '67s go both ways. Might have been a midyear change. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Seat release cables are definitely in cars up to at least 66.
They're not impossible to find NOS but they're usually not cheap when you do. As long as the ends are intact and the cables move freely, you're in good shape. |

They're easily fabricated. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.
