I am converting the engine I am building (1776) to a doghouse set up. The front tin that was on there was from a baywindow and more square. I pulled the longblock from a 70 bay. I would rather not use it as someone just cut a hole for the neck that goes through the tin from the fan shroud. They didnt do a very good job. So, I bought a used piece this past week but am starting to wonder if it is for a bug. How do I tell the difference? Is there a difference?

Just to be clear.... Front is Front?

Would you be speaking of the bell housing tin?

If so.... hazetguy has a pic up of a 55' bus specific front tin in the gallery.

There are others there too, I also seem to remember a not too recent thread on this subject.... but I'm still sipping my coffee over here on the Left coast. #Sleep

The kids are starting to get up now... doubt I'll have time to search for it for you now. I did try though...

post a pic of your tin.

This is a doghouse bug front tin.
This is what you want if you put a doghoused motor in a split bus:

The blue one on the bottom is a front tin for a doghouse cooler in an early bay. Only offered in '71, they can be tough to find.

Clara's post above shows the beetle front doghouse tin, which fits beetles and split buses. That is the one you need.

Would this front tin work with a doghouse motor on a 67 doublecab?

This one has the slot cut out, passenger side. Would this need to be covered?

Yes, the second one is better since it doesn't have the extra oval shaped hole. They are both for a bug I believe (the smaller round hold on the passenger side is for the reverse and/or brake light wiring. Either one will work, just plug or tape up the extra holes. You will never see it when it's installed.
