|
|
Hi guys, sorry for the shout out, but here's the thing,
i replaced all the brake lines, put discs on the front fixed the rear drums,
now here's the problem;
the master cylinder bleeds out into the napoleon hat and under the pedals,
what could be causing this?
there's a small puddle of brake fluid under my pedals on the floorpan. _________________ THE BUILD http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php

could it be that one of the bolts is loose?
my mc is stock german and was working fine before,
I"M NOT JUST GOING TO BUY A NEW ONE
it would off course be the obvious answer, how do i fix this?
o i forgot to mention it's a 1303 the new MC costs a fortune! _________________ THE BUILD http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php

I believe the only thing that would cause that is a leaking seal on the master cylinders piston. |

I had this happen on my bug. It made a nasty mess on the floor and bubbled up my nice POR-15 paint on the pan on that side. On my car (1971 standard beetle), the fluid could only get inside the car by leaking by the piston the push rod pushes on on the back of the MC. There were no signs of any leaking when looking at it through the wheel well. Dry as a bone on the outside. I replaced it with a Brazilian unit from the local air cooled import shop and it worked like a champ. No more brake fluid soaked carpet. That was nasty. |

The master cylinder can leak and still work, but eventually it will fail completely and you will have no brakes. Sorry, but you need to repair or replace the master cylinder. _________________ Brian

Disc brakes typically require more pressure to work correctly. This might have cause the Master cylinder to fail. The higher quality disc brake kits come with a new master cylinder and braided stainless steel flex lines. Your already going in the right direction with the disc brake conversion no sense in going cheap now. Get a new cylinder, bleed it right and you will be happy for a long time. _________________ All it takes is a little imagination, some mechanical ability, and neighbors who mind their own business

agreed. sounds like failed mc.
replace it only with a new german one. go brazilian and you'll have a hat full of leaking fluid again in 6 months, the brazil ones suck. _________________

mc must never leak under and circumstances.
its bad
the one exception is loose fittings (up front)
but that fluid can never leak to the rear. past the fire wall
well if it is still intact, is it.?
is it swiss cheese?
if rear seal of MC leaks, well it is bad. simple pimple. |

My MC is apparently a mix of a 1300 and a 1303, i have a 1303 but my MC has only 1 brakelight switch, it should have 2, the 1300 MC has 1 but has an extra hole on top, mine hasn't.
here are some pics, i guess the seal on the piston failed.

they are rebuild-able if you have the skills and replacement seals. cheaper than buying a whole new one too. _________________

or $60 on a good one at bughaus
and skies the limit if you try. (any car , any part)
no year stated.
but
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php?carcode=1280225&parttype=1836

$276.60 Euro equals $366.4816 in dollars on todays market
Man, Those Germans really know how to use there government to their advantage. Last year the hired 100,000 government workers to go a hustle business around the world. Does ya thinks that would fly in usa? hahahahaha
Just order one from USA and ship it
$60.00 usa equals 45.5573 in Euros

my guess is the seller is a rip of artist.?
or they have HUGE import duties ?
or huge taxes on all car parts?
i think we have that here in just Puerto Rico and other island.
its huge duty in this example.
he needs to learn what his country does in this regard
and learn how to avoid all that.
at that rate an engine must be like $100k
talk to local car buddy or local forum. |

Yeah prices are through the roof, even for where i live (actually next to germany) managed to get my MC refurbished for 50 euros today, honed it out, new piston and seals, some kind of special grease, and a coat of zinc spray.
not bad, picking it up next week. _________________ THE BUILD http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php
