One thing you might consider is ask your local law enforcement if you can bring your van in and have their drug dog sniff it over. It would suck to be crossing the border, or going to an air show on a military base and have a drug dog light up on your vehicle and ruin your day. My point is underground car stealing border types are a high likelihood to shuttle drugs around and if they forgot some hidden deeply in the vehicle, you may one day take the fall for it. My brothers were military pilots and whenever they bought a used car they'd bring it to the base for a sniff before driving it as an every day driver.

Google "auto lock". Put one on the brake and clutch pedal and sleep comfortably

Great news. inspiration for all owners to take measures.
fuel pump kill switch hidden can certainly slow down a thief who can get by the locks and ignition lock. Other ideas for keeping our vans from drifting off would be greatly appreciated. I used to pull the rotor and take it with me when parked at the airport for days at a time. Airports have security cameras and guards however..... |

So very happy to hear the good news--I was wondering! Now, your next mission is to wire a simple kill switch into the fuel pump circuit. There are threads. I'd also think of all the things that could happen with an abused van, and check for 'em.
I hope the good times roll uninterrupted henceforth.

Well, I guess this means that you can never, ever, EVER say/do/think anything bad about such a brother ever again, in this life or any life to come. Forever, y'know. You might even has to keep him in free beer for the remainder of this one and he probably deserves it. |

That is a GREAT idea to resse such keys. ]
I have a few sets too.
How good are the new lock sets you can buy for A1s and A2s?
You still need to do work, but that gets you a good ignition lock and trunk lock as a start. Plus the bits from the other cylinders.
Many, if not most, locks in the vans are getting worn..... _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

Really worn or dirty locks are more prone to working with non owner keys. The driver's door and ignition mostly since they are always used. Did you have a hidden spare on the van somewhere?
All of the locks including the ignition can be rekeyed or replaced fairly easily.
