My engine has three bad Hydraulic lifters - they will not pump up with the oil pressure. Is there a source for new or replacement ones? And are they the same on a 1.8L and 2L engine? Thanks in advance. |

there are many sources for hyd lifters...
1.8s were solid lifters from the factory
only 78-83 T4s were hydraulic. _________________ 88 Van WBX, A/T - 13 JSW TDI 6M/T - 2012 Touareg TDI Sport |

You might try reading ratwell's info on hydraulic lifters. He has some info on getting them to pump, such as changing the oil two times in a small time frame. Cleanliness of the oil system is the primary issue with them, so some kind of case clean out and thicker oil could get them to pump. Also if the bus has been sitting a long time it could take 30 mins of running to get them to pump. Alternatively, you could take them out and pump them yourself. _________________ air-cooled or nothing for me

AsTooType2 suggested,Fix the 3 that are bleeding down and
keep the oil clean. or you may need a whole set of lifters
to go with that new camshaft you will need when it goes Flat.
camshaft and lifter hardness vary from vendor to vendor. _________________ V.W.owner since 1967 |

Adjusting the offending lifters to zero lash for a short while sometimes fixes them as well, use a tiny bit of preload on them like 1/8 turn so you don't pound the circlips out. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
