Hi Guy's,
My friends 86 Westy had a reconditioned engine installed 2years ago and has just found this pipe disconnected and plugged along with the broken and plugged part where it connects to on the thermostat cooling tower.
The engine has been running fine, does anyone know what this is for???
Thanks

Really small photo but it looks like the hose that allows for proper system bleeding that goes up to a "ring" hose/line around the engine bay. There's a bleeder atop the thermostat that when open allows air to escape the system as it is filled and warmed.

Not sure due to pic size but that's my assessment.

Thanks DougM,

Your the only one that had a answer.

My friend just had the coolant changed and the VW mechanic didn't know what the pipe it did.
The engine temp is spot on, to have it connected he would have to have a new cooling tower fitted $$$$$$, so I guess it stays as is.

Hmmm. Can you post a bigger picture?

I wonder about a "VW mechanic" who doesn't understand all parts the cooling system. Surprised
