I was contemplating making my own pump cover from a stock cover.
This will be for a 6 mm stud pump. Has anyone here made one? I was thinking of machining the outlet portion from tool steel and then drilling a hole in the cover, followed by tig welding the outlet onto the cover.
Anyone ever seen this done before, any pix?

If you got them skills, weld the holes up in an 8mm cover and redrill them to 6mm or make sleeves for the bolt holes

I can't see why not. but I would start with a 1/4" flat plate. Weld a block on first. Then drill and tap. Then sand the mating surface flat. Seams like a lot of work.
Remember to block outlet hole in pump.

I like the idea for using .25 inch plate rather than the stock plate.

The stock plate *will* warp if you weld it. Have it milled after welding, or use a much thicker plate as mentioned above.

Yes, I already planned on following up the job by resurfacing the plate, but I think using the thicker plate, warping will be minimal.
