I am looking at getting one here in Australia and these seem to be the best buy

Made with a Danfoss compressor

Interesting - looks to be close relative of the budget priced "SMAD" & "Outsunny" found here on eBay...???

Evacool (OZ website DOES specify DANFOSS BD35-F compressor):

SMAD (FWIW - unit in one picture is labled "DELLA"):

Outsunny (no longer available...???):

Truly worth a look, >>>IF<<< if fact using a Danfoss compressor...???

(Yes - I'm fridge shopping on a budget...) Wink

Those with the Westy interiors. How did you power your fridge? I now have a fuse panel under the sink...But confused where to put a power outlet. I could also hardwire if but I think a 12v outlet would be best.

I cut the 12V plug off and hard-wired my ARB (which ARB says is okay to do, provided it's fused) to a Blue Seas fuse panel under the sink. It's also plugged into the 110V outlet in the cabinet.

If you plan to use the fridge in other vehicles, then keeping the plug is wise.

OK...my turn to play...I finally jumped in on this budget-friendly $400 "brand-name-but-Chinese" unit...OEM!!! (FWIW)

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

https://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-appliances/...ge_CC-40US

Currently on Amazon & elsewhere for $500 but had recently been as low as $343 before spring price jump... <shrug>

Full 40-quart, 23" wide footprint, fold-out-of-the-way handles <only one year warranty> but that's
all I was going to get in my price range anyway... Rolling Eyes Online reviews are sparse but very good.

Arrived beautifully - triple boxed (!!!) & powered up perfectly. I filled it with beverage cans/bottles
& ran it for a week on house power to get a feel for controls, basic operation, temp settings, etc...

The interior temp. readout is not particularly accurate (shows about 7°F lower than actual)
but I've verified that setting @ 30°F gives me actual minimum of 35°F (min @ bottom of
compartment just after compressor turns off) to max of 40°F (max @ top of compartment
just before compressor turns on). This is a range I'm comfortable with & I also have a small
wireless thermometer to monitor actual interior temps, so...

TODAY...I started the "real world" test (similar to djkeev on p.5 of this thread)
- everything set up out of the sun in our ~65°F interior entryway...
- fridge ~80% full with beverage containers, pre-chilled to operating temp...
- connected to my relatively new (6/17) Group 24 deep cycle battery,
. . . rated "690 Marine cranking amps" & "101 ah @ 1a"...
- battery cut-out on fridge set to LOW (10.1v cut out/11.1 in)...
- monitoring time, temp, voltage etc. for duration of battery capacity...

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

So far, so far...I'll keep you posted! Cool

- Dave

Well, consider me impressed! ...and/or very lucky...???

This morning I just hit the 1-week mark on my "best case scenario" test with the Dometic CC-40 (above)
running solo on 12v and...only just this morning finally dipped below 12.2 volts! Kept consistent temps
the whole time, swinging no more than 2°F above/below set temp of 37°F. Love it! Very Happy

I don't know if that means by fridge is awesome, or the battery or BOTH! Cool

This weekend I'll recharge the battery & start one final "workout" test, pulling cold beverages
out all week & replacing with warm (room temp) cans. I'll keep all y'all posted!

- Dave

Quick update on the cheap Dometic: ran all week & just got below 12.0 volts on the 8th
day (today)...not even close to the HIGH battery cutoff. The thing runs quietly & seems
to work great! It feels like I should be happy with this...anyone else have an opinion?

I may yet go full geek & put it on the meter to check the actual amp draw...

Cheers!

- Dave

This may be the answer, from the 3/16 post...

connected to my relatively new (6/17) Group 24 deep cycle battery,
. . . rated "690 Marine cranking amps" & "101 ah @ 1a"...
- battery cut-out on fridge set to LOW (10.1v cut out/11.1 in)...

Ah, well, 8 days on ~50 AH is 6.25 AH per day, impressive for sure!

I was surprised enough I found it hard to believe & questioned my results... Thanks for the 2nd opinion!

Watch for update after I charge up the battery again & check the actual current draw...

Cool

Dave, you are going to LOVE not dealing with ice, water logged food and questionable varying temperatures.

Welcome to the 21st Century.

Congrats!

That is excellent. The real world use in the Vanagon will not be as good since it will get hotter inside the bus, sun effects, opening it several times a day, etc. But it sounds like it should do well for you regardless.

I'm not a huge fan of the location of the power cords for that Dometic. Crazy efficient though. That being said - I'm going to probably downgrade my Dometic 75 dual zone to a Dometic 50 single zone. I don't need the second zone.

Granted. Hence, the plan to wrap in ~3 layers Reflectix for a DIY insulated cover. It will also stand on rollers ~1"
off the floor with additional foam insulation to mitigate heat soak from pavement/floor/coolant hoses beneath... Rolling Eyes

Anyway...Thanks, guys! Cool

Sold my big fridge. The Dometic CFX75 dual zone - I don't need dual zone. I think I'm now going to try the Dometic CFX50 out. I just don't like the looks of the ARB.
