2wd to syncro fuel filler.

I'm in the middle of a 2wd to syncro conversion and I'm looking for wisdom on what to do with the stock fuel filler location. If I weld it up will I be sorry later? should I just saw a filler neck off and keep a locking cap on there? Ad an aux fuel tank? water tank filler?
Ideas?

I use that spot to add a shore power connection.
Marinco makes a stainless steel 30amp socket that fits well.
