Sorry,
I guess the clock missing the red second hand, along with the fuel gauge and overall glare through me off. The older style trip speedo looks like this.
In my original post I didn't mean the black one didn't exist, just that I'd never seen one. _________________ '78 Westfalia CDN

also i once read that in europe you could get a water heater for an air cooled bus - hot shower! |

What about those petrol burning high flow auxiliary heating unit? I know they sound dangerous, but if they operate anything like the butane burning things you see used to heat marquees, even my girlfriend would be warmed up enough to get her gear off.... and we all know that THAT is really the best accessory of all... |

I hate to dig up this old debate about the color of the speedo but there are 3 speedos like I implied in my earlier messages. Forgetting about the trip varieties, there exists...
- 68-72 speedo with grey disk in the center
- 73-74 speedo with greyish face and no disk
- 75-79 speedo with black face
I'm not 100% positive when the faces changed but the tip off is that the screws that hold the face on are silver instead of black and the needle is elongated and obviously different. _________________ '78 Westfalia CDN

Here is the speedometer I made from Scirocco parts and my 71. It matches the clock that I made from a Squareback clock.

Alright, explain how you made a speedo from Scirocco parts- that is too cool! _________________ '78 Westy

I am very impressed by your trip speedo. That is the best replica I've seen. The only way to tell it's not real is the numbers or a different font. You should make those and sell them. How did you cut out the trip numbers?
Very nice indeed. _________________ "I spud therefore I yam." |

I had those white spoke Wolfsberg hubcaps on my 71 Westy. I wanted to keep the hubcaps before I sold it but the rims looked like hell underneath. Those are near impossible to find! |

Don't know what year the Scirocco was, the part # was 811520272. It is a plastic piece with the mile and trip mile wheels mounted in it. My face
plate mounted right to it with the 2 chrome screws so that was easy. I used my 71 mechanical part and mounted it to the plastic piece with 3 new holes I had to drill. The reset button was the wrong angle so I made a spacer and glued that to it to make it stick straight out. The lens is plexy glass, I could not drill a hole in the original glass. There is speed pointer return spring for calibrating the needle. Before I took the speedometer apart I hooked it up to my cordless drill, the 1st click I think around 27 mph and the 2nd was around 43 mph, the electric drill was 91 mph. I adjusted the spring accordingly. The hard part was cutting the holes in the front using the face plate from the Scirocco as a template. I scroll sawed the holes close to the size then used a small file to finish them. I used some gray touchup paint my wife had for the edges and repainted the needle white to match the clock. Psteve |

Coolest option would be an engine. Sure wish I had one in mine.....
BTW I found the wickedest bong in a bus I was stripping down last year. I'm almost afraid of it. |

Racks always complete the overall look, I have yet to have a clock that actually kept time/worked correctly, ambulance fans are cool but kinda noisy, gas heaters... well... who doesn't love heat... in a VW! One of my favorites for bays are the factory jail bars, deluxe bumper trim and a BERG SHIFTER!! Gotta love the Berg baby, no more sloppy seconds.. thirds or fourths! Most of all SLOPPY FIRSTS!!
Keep on Truckin! Bays rule! |

I think this roof drawer in my 71 westy is pretty cool. Some people here was calling BS (Iam sure some still do) but if it were homemade someone went to alot of trouble to get the right wood make the right joints and use the right nails and for what? then a guy in England posted he also has one of these drawers.

the coolest one has to be the km you put into the bus and the experiences/stories that come along
and a pet...
the one in my bus I like a lot is the front bench seat. another one, hard to find in Portugal, is the early dash clock |

At a show last Saturday some woman was checking mine over real carefully and got all the more excited with pics of the rear extended sleeper and the extra room. Then she asked if it had a toilet. I said yes, a 5 gallon bucket with a toilet seat. She got a frown and left before I could tell her the bucket goes in a pop-up privacy shelter that also has a solar shower. _________________ 71 Superbug
