I am trying to bring back some life into the original paint job. I'm using polishing compound and a buffer. It's coming out ok (better than the dull oxidization) It's a lot of work and I plan on putting a couple of good coats of wax on when I'm done.
Just wondering if anyone had a really good remedy or product to help bring back the luster. _________________ I learn so much in here, sometimes it makes my head hurt.

This is a little off your topic, but I'm looking for paint mixed in a spray can. I called my local parts store today with the original paint code for my sage green 76 westy, but they didn't have it. someone posted a site online which supplied original VW paint- anyone know where it is?
I have small spots I've repaired and want to spray over them. There is nothing close in stock colors. I know fading etc will cause the original paint to be a little off, but that's OK with me. |

Bus Depot has them, but they don't match exactly. _________________ -=Rob

I would try rubbing compound to polish to wax. If your paint is REALLY shot you could always wet sand it with 2000 grit paper, then polish than wax. _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

You want to use clay to remove the scheisse from the paint before you polish. Griot's Garage sells it. Works best with a buffer. _________________ "I spud therefore I yam." |

For the factory color paint in a can (or other), try using http://www.paintscratch.com/
Has an online color-matcher, too. |

The problem with matching to the original color is that that color hasn't been sitting in the sun for x amount of years fading. Best thing to do is to get the car/van to a good auto paint store and have them match it right there. Hard part is getting it in a spray can. _________________ -=Rob
