Time to start this one off!
The printed flyers are in hand--however the organizers do not appear to have the official web site updated yet for 2012 as of this writing--but you can still check on it at: http://www.tbirdsofconn.org/TimeMach.html
THE DATE: Sunday, July 22nd, 2012 (as always: "Rain or Shine")
THE PLACE: Guilford Fairgrounds, 111 Lovers Lane, Guilford, CT
THE TIME: 8am-3pm
OPEN TO: All Volkswagens & VW-powered vehicles, stock & modified, up to & including 1987 model year
Last year was special in that VW was the Time Machines featured marque--this year we are still our own class in the show (see class "E" highlighted below), but we're going to be stock & modified all together in the same class, as we've "traditionally" been:
You can check out the SAMBA thread we created last year, which also has a compilation of a bunch of other previous years'-worth of pictures and info--plus a bunch of info on the amazing 2011 turnout of VWs to participate: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=457686&highlight=
And this is our own TM2011 report: http://home.comcast.net/~commonsteve/TimeMachines2011/TM11Report.html
Here are the complete scans of all sides of the 2012 flyer:
"34rd"--ouch!
Anyway, that's it for now. I will be updating this thread as much as possible, with any and all additional info, as I am able. I hope all VW folks might consider stopping by on July 22nd in Guilford--should be fun! _________________ Stock Steve

Yea commercial trucks are the featured "car" this year. Now if they can get the trucks that used to come out way back in Durham that will be great. I want to see the early Mack with the chain drive Mack on the trailer again.
And yes we will be there in the swap. Great all car show. |

That sounds great, Clay!
I hope they get some interesting trucks out there this year also. I am not sure how they are going about beating the drums within the antique truck/commercial vehicle enthusiast world, but hopefully they get the word out to the folks with interesting machinery...
Funny also how I had chosen a "commercial" VW truck-themed design for the dash plaque well ahead of hearing about what the organizers were going to feature this year... Good Karma, I guess...
Thanks again and I'll look for you up at Mansfield Hollow this coming weekend... _________________ Stock Steve

I doubt I will be at Mansfield.... It's a Sunday so I got to make money. The plan right now is to do Bell Town show. |

One of my fun Springtime & Early Summer pursuits connected with the annual Time Machines car shows is distributing flyers. I'll add a shot or two to this thread to document where I've been distributing them.
First stop was the Cardone & Daughter Automotive Open Shop gathering on Boston Post Road (Route 1) in Westbrook, CT. The date was Saturday, April 14th, 2012. I drove Doug the '60 Bug there, and happy to say he ran great. The Cardone's did a wonderful job dispensing food, drink, shop tours, and hospitality in general for all who attended.
I stuck TM2012 flyers in all the cars there, plus left a stack in the shop office.
Cardone & Daughter Automotive also happen to do a great job working on old cars (it's their business), DEFINITELY INCLUDING OLD VOLKSWAGENS! I know--I have first-hand experience, and can vouch that they know what they're doing, and treat you and your car very well. Their web site is: http://www.cardoneanddaughter.com/

I mentioned this to Deb on her Air Cooled Cruisers of Central New England thread - http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=499596 - and felt it worthwhile to repeat here, in case anyone with a 1988-or-later VW possibly felt excluded (like, for instance, some of you Mexi-Bug drivers, or anyone else who has a 1988 or later VW that they like to show off):
<<"...We definitely welcome any and all VWs and VW-powered vehicles, stock & modified alike, up to and incuding the 1987 model year (though you can get onto the show field with any year vehicle by registering in class "NN," reference the list of classes: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/919311.jpg - and if, by some reason, your car happens to find its way over to where the VW class is parked, well, then, we know that "these things sometimes happen"...)...">>
It would *not* be kosher for you to win an award in the VW-only class, so please don't expect one, no matter how nice your 1988-or-later VW is--thanks.
Anyway, please do keep all of that in mind... _________________ Stock Steve

I told you I'd update this thread with events where we distributed TM2012 flyers! Here are a couple of shots--or I should say the same shot twice, but one with one of the VWs indicated, from that evening (photo credit to my son Matt, who took the shot, while me and my daughter Sarah were busy actually handing TM2012 flyers out to nearly all the cars there!).
The event, by the way, was the Connecticut Street Rod Association's "Nostalgia Night" at Mountain Side Outing Club in Wallingford, CT (just off of, I think, I-91, exit 15), on Monday evening, June 18th, 2012. We heard they drew just under 800 cars that evening--wow!
Here is the shot with a very nice, Stratford, CT-based, I believe, '73 Super Beetle indicated (low-resolution, since I had to do a screen shot from a view edited in MS Word, so I could put the arrow in there):
Cropped down to highlight the light blue Beetle (with accessory sunroof):
Here is the car (two toned blue & white as you can see), from my records (photo from the TM2011 event):
Oh, and also visible in that view is a "GT40" kit car that I think is CT-based and also based on a VW pan--though it is turbo Buick V6-powered these days... Anyway, it was also visible in that overall view--here's a cropped-down shot with it in the center...
We're still gettin' those Time Machines 2012 flyers distributed out there far & wide, now with the event upcoming just a little over one week away...
Time Machines 2012, Sunday, July 22, 2012, Guilford, CT...

Getting back to the Ocean Beach Park cruise in New London (that's kinda your neck of the woods, isn't it, Clay?), from earlier this week (Monday evening, July 16th, 2012, to be exact), I finally got around to uploading a couple of pictures of a couple of the VWs that were there (there was also a very nice blue Baja Bug that I was unable to capture with my camera, since my first order of business was Time Machines 2012 flyer distributing).
This is, I think, a '73 Super Beetle Convertible. I do not know the asking price on it, but it was parked with a cool '71 or so Pinto, and also a couple of "French Beetles" (classic Citroen 2CVs). It looked very spiffy in yellow with black Empi wheels, and blacked-out trim:
And then there was this gorgeous tan auto-stick '71 Super Beetle. It had signage in the trunk indicating that it had been purchased new at a Groton, CT VW dealership, for a grand total of $2,294, on July 16, 1971 (41 years ago TO THE DAY!). The sign claimed the car to be an "all original survivor," including paint, interior, glass, chrome, engine, seat belts, and AM radio:
In general, crowds made it very difficult to photograph individual cars. But it was definitely an overall relaxed summer vibe, and I'm very happy to have made it out there! _________________ Stock Steve
