I haven't seen anyone do this and thought I would share.
While inspecting my filler neck for the fresh water tank, I noticed a large vacant area where the filler neck and power lines for the outlet/braker are hidden. What a waste. So I removed the divider and moved the power lines from the floor to the wall. It would be easy to run the lines into the water tank area if one is so inclined to take the braker/outlet apart. A small piece of masonite was used to temporarily block the openings in the sidewall until I get around to doing it right. Future plans are to box in the backside of the outlet, cover the wires and plumb in a filler neck to fill the tank inside with out having to empty out the cubby, unscrew a plate and the tank top.
I would say I gained about 50% more room in that little cubby hole.
Didn't take a shot of the before layout so I simply inserted the old divider for comparison
After shot from above
And lastly what it looks like thru the door

This space is perfect for fitting a jug of coolant, a tub of grease, a bottle of brake fluid, and two quarts of engine oil.
They all fit nicely and are out of the way but there for when you need them. |

Nice. I don't use the filler anyway (always fill the water tank through the top). So it might even be possible to cancel that hose completely, seal the tank, and claim the space. _________________ 1989 Westy AT, 2.2 GoWesty.

Yea, I have been contemplating plugging the inlet all together. Maybe using a 1" test plug that slides into it and twist a wingnut to expand it kinda thing? _________________ “May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. I've always used that space (with the divider) to store all my carry along spare parts; spark plugs, cap, belts, wires, etc. _________________ 89 Westy 2.1 Auto |

Be careful of putting that type of preasure on old plastic. It was not designed to do that. Maybe put a snug hose clamp on the OD and then the plug. Or a "cap" that can slip over and then hose clamped on. _________________

I don't remember the water filler hose going up through the cabinet. I think mine goes behind the cabinet. Did you move it when the picture was taken?

you could use a couple of 90 degree elbows to make that hose tuck closer in _________________ 58' pg/sg silo fridge westy

I did indeed. Actually I removed it completely. The hose was damaged and haven't been inclined to buy a new one. A friend of mine is a retired plumber and he let me scavenge thru his stash of miscellaneous parts. Thus, with a little inspiration from my old '68 Dormobile, I came up with the following, for no $ -
Please over look my sloppy glue job

Yup, me too. Now I can carry more spare parts, jug of coolant, etc etc.
Though, it just came to me....how about using this space for a house battery? Thoughts? _________________ “May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.” - Edward Abbey
