Make sure your virus and spyware programs are up to date before installing any of these. I used the microsoft link, and coincidence or not, immediately after photopaint would not load, I rebooted, and now I have several viruses on my PC. I can't definitely say it was that program, but the time sequence was clear.

Symptoms include browser homepage changes, winlogon.exe corruption, and a "Runtime error 216" message that indicated a particular virus.

I am posting this from work since my home PC is now hosed. My Norton was about two months out of date since CompUSA was late getting me my Norton CD, and now I am paying dearly for it.

Do a scan (spyware and virus) before and after installing any program, now matter how seemingly trustworthy the source.

Virus checks are always a good recommendation

I seriously doubt a file from download.microsoft.com would be infected though.

In all likelihood, no. But the timing is pretty clear, and those "powertpoys" are written by MS employees but are not "official MS software"-- they are provided without warrantee and may not go through the same QC checks.

It can also be coincidence. I'm just pretty good about never opening attachments, installing programs, etc. I've made no (known) changes to my system for many months. But sometimes it's a particular instruction or time that triggers a virus. I'll be back on the case tonight...

I don't have Vista so I haven't tried them but I know there are several available if you do a Google search.

Here is one that sounds good:

Check this out. It integrates with Windows so that you can just right click a picture or set of pictures and have it batch resize. There was a decent one with the XP Powertoys but that doesn't work in Vista.

If you have MS Outlook there's another way. I highlight the oriiginal pictures then right click. SEND TO---- (scroll down)
MAIL RECIPIENT
It will ask you if you want to make pictures smaller. Hit Yes or OK
An e-mail message will appear with your resized images as attachments.
On the message click File-Save Attachments, and save to whatever folder you wish.
With this method you can resize multiple images in a batch rather than one at a time. I have resized over 50 images in one batch this way.
Make sure you hold down the control key when you select multiple images for resizing.
I don't even use MS Outlook anymore except to resize batches of pictures.

Try this at home! You'll need:

1. Some playdough
2. Two (2) pencils
3. Two (2) cardboard 'tires'

Roll the playdough into a ballish-roundy kind of shape.
Stick the pencils into the dough so they are opposite each other(like your axles) and stick the tires on the outter ends of the pencils.

I gave up in trying to resize, I changed the settings on my nikon dslr to take a crappy pic but infranview still wouldn't fit samba.

I have photos on flickr.com and I selected a picture...clicked on size....clicked on thumbnail (100X64) or something like that...coppied the url....coppied to the "photo from a site" button under upload button and BINGO i finally have an avatar...yeah me

Nobody loves the Samba any more than I do....but I'll be damned if I can figure out how to work with my photos! Evil or Very Mad

I just spent an hour resizing some photos to 640X480 so I could put them in the gallery and use them in the forums. The gallery still won't accept them....says they're too large. They ARE 640X480, but they are still over the 300MB limit, apparently.

I hesitiate to download software off the internet....I've read about folks having imported viruses. Any other thoughts? Or do I just go on not using photos? Sad

Get a Photobucket account. Once you select the default size, you just do a few clicks and Photobucket does all the work.

Tip for avatars.
If your avatar is a JPG and you can't seem to get the size smaller than 8Kn this may be due to the EXIF data.

I had a 80 by 80 pic and kept reducing compression till the pic looked crappy and the size was still big. Then I removed the EXIF data (I have irfanview) and the file size dropped drastically. I was able to go back to a bigger less compressed pic and still be about 8K.
See how sharp my avatar is now?

ALSO: you can use Powerpoint to resize pictures super easy.
1) Insert-Picture-From File (or drag your photo unto an empty powerpoint slide)
2) Resize pic with mouse by grabbing any corner of the pic and dragging it inward.
3) Right click on the pic and choose Save As Picture.
This is handy when u wish to put arrows or text on your pics and then save as picture

PostPosted: Sun Feb 22, 2009 10:21 am    Post subject: Setting camera resolution Reply with quote

I had increased my resolution on my camera for some vacation photos, then when I got home and took some pictures of parts to post on TheSamba, when I tried to post them I was unable.

Then I realized... I forgot to set my camera resolution back down to 640x480.

To me this is so much easier than having to use a program to resize my photos.

On some cameras the file size at 640x480 may be to large to post, but I think on most cameras it will not be.

So if your having problems posting photos try reducing your resolution size on your camera to 640x480.

http://pixresizer.en.softonic.com/

Very easy software and the best part is that you can resize more than one picture at the time.
