well where to start...
firstly i'd like to introduce you all to "Elanora". my newly acquired 1967 Squareback. some may think they know her already under another alias or from other thread. well you are spot on!
it isn't very often i name a car (actually never) but i thought she deserved it. her name is from the suburb that we will be picking her up from... Elanora Heights. from there, she starts her new life (sounds like a bloody kid).
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=486161&highlight= = check the last post out... the plan was in place
this car belonged to Simon (canyoudrivestick?). the story to date is in the thread that he started... great story but not fully told after speaking with him over the last few months.
Elanora is at a stage of completion... just a few little things to tidy up. my wife & myself should be picking her up within the next 1-2 weeks then we will take a road trip together back home over 3-4 days.
im going to transfer some old build pics then ill add some new updated ones as we go... start a little story on her
Elanora lives here now
the old Elanora in 2008
Simons idea was to take it back to original... well as close as possible with a few mods her transformation taking place. 2008 she was painted... & thats where she sat covered up for the next 2.5yrs...

That's a beautiful square Matt, You are off to a good start. It will look a lot better without accessories.

hey martin,
mate after rethinking a few things i thought the same.
i do have a few little NOS & accessories to put on her nothing major that will take away the look.
1. nice custom roof rack (if i can bring myself to put the supports in the gutters).
2. rear NOS lights. reverse & brake.
3. front driving light holder/bar with spots or fog lights.
4. "WANTING" - Huls rear seat recliner brackets + support bracket
5. "WANTING" Kamei Pedal Pad
6. "WANTING" Parcel Tray RHD _________________ the dc baggin is because its a well known fact that a restored sc will never be worth anywhere near what even a shitbox dc is |

its a part Phil Benfield engine from Peninsula Engine Services. phil & his son daniel did the balancing, porting and polishing (lightened flywheel too) etc. Marcus Osborne worked his mechanical magic & built the engine at Phils.
Phil is old school race engine builder. its a 1776cc, the carbs are Weber 40 IDFs - original italian (from an Alfa) ... it runs an Engle 110 cam - from all reports on the 500km road run in was "it's very hilly in Sydney (Elanora Heights) and eats them up, lots of torque. what it's gonna be like when it's tuned and jetted is mouth watering...
the build
mmmm shiny, clean & new
ready to put in
her heart starts to beat... its only done 500km road run in... on the dyno this monday
ready to Gooooo
ohhh the view from underneath

Car is looking really good and coming together quick!
You should really get these filters out of engine compartment though.
