|

Hey all. Stock 1600 DP with a 30 pict and a 009 distributor. Has been driving fine for over a year with reliable starting and power. Just a nice running engine.
Last time I took it on a long drive I started losing power at higher RPM's and it was just plain running poorly. I messed with it and the points had closed up so I switched them and reset them. Was running well after the swap. Next few runs around town I'm getting a popping and power falls on it's face right around shifting RPM's. It feels like it's starving for fuel. Checked fuel pressure and it's OK, swapped filters and carbs. Point gap is OK. I'm stumped now
My buddy thinks the cam went flat but since it happened pretty much overnight I don't buy it. Anything else you guys can think of before I pull the engine and start tearing into it?
Thanks all, NAES _________________ Barndoor Mafia

Put a timing light on it and see if your distributor is advancing like its supposed to. _________________

If it was a cam flattened it would pop back in the carb on heavy acceleration, not just on the top end. It could be a broken valve spring or weak ones. Check your valves adjustment and look at the springs.
The other thing that effects mixture across the board is the float level. Also check the flow rate of your fuel pump to make sure it can keep up.

Change your oil. Drop the sump plate and catch the oil on a paper towel btwn the oil flow and your container. That will either calm your soul or sink it. You will see the metal shavings if your cam went flat. I doubt that is your problem. On the bright side, look into your fuel delivery restrictions or spark timing issues. Possible valve float due to weak springs? Let us know what you find. |
