As some of the Colorado VW scene know I am fairly involved in a AC VW shop out of Florence Co (aka Area 67). We usually do fairly mundane things that are not very interesting to report. However, we hit the road tomorrow at 2 am in a Mitsubishi w/ a tow dolly to get a 58 Kombi out of NC (thanks Doug!). Tucked in the back is a 40 hp and a brake rebuild (plus other stuff!!) destined for an orphaned Iowa SC that has been sitting for..ah,well 40years! We will put in an engine d, add a bay window tank, brake rebuild, new tires, some wiring and then drive back to Colorado (as a convoy). The Patina on the SC is pleasing. Lots of pictures and regular updates to come!

Made it to Shelby NC, got the major eyeball from the Misery troopers for about 5 minutes at 60mph...checking out all the tires and parts. I forgot how crowded east coast is, averaging 45 mph and getting 13 mpg in the Mitsubishi (ouch, I miss vw mileage). Very excited to get the 58 and then off to Iowa. Let try to get some spooky pics of the departure up, no hatin' the Bay window pic it was providing light for the departure...

Picked up the 58 (thanks for all the help Doug!!) and started out to Iowa for the SC drive out. Got lots of peace signs and thumbs up along the way, check out the trucker eyeballing to Bus (he drove one back in the day when society was more fun). Had to add oil to the rgb's in a car wash, only shade for miles, hot and humid..I am just not used to it. Area 67 pics need resized..will do later. enjoy

In Iowa..Albia?? record heat wave, but we missed the tropical storm hitting NC now. We have dolled over 1000 miles so far, more than the bus has done in a long long time, it still has an original dealer logo from NC, it did not go far from its original sale IMO.Let me get some pics going

It has some issues, but is good where it counts. The frame rails are great, cross braces are strong, suspension good, torsion tubes are fine, roof has 2 minor issues. It is beyond our means to "restore" it but it is within reach to get it drivable/safe. I will be using up lots of used parts lying about the shop, and cutting up some bay windows for floor metal repairs..looks kind of cool, may not paint the sides. we will see.

O.K. here is an update with many pics for your evening entertainment. We arrived yesterday in Iowa to do a drive out with the SC, it was sitting in the Mud and grass with 4 flats. The Inside was mouse turd/carcass hell and much moss on the outside. The owner of the property would not allow us to work on it there thus no drive out. We unload the 58 Kombi and load up the SC and it is off to the car wash..more later
