No, it might not be barndoor. Those recesses at the sides about 25cm up from the base, actually look like as if they were designed to allow for the 3 point safety belt. That surely wasn´t a barndoor feature. Most barndoor dividers would have 3 piece windows as well. Maybe it is a baywindow one after all. Early bay dividers used split handles, I just found out. But all the baywindow dividers I have seen so far were welded in , this one is bolted like ín splits... Guess, I try my luck i the baywindow section then . So long

Yeah, it might be after all, I will try there. Maybe somebody has seen one like this before. I haven´t, just the welded in ones _________________ Westfalia Helsinki 6/77

I've seen split ones screwed in with sheet metal screws before. I suspect it was a dealer install or something as the part was still in factory primer and did not match the cab paint. |

Yes, split ones are screwed (always?) and bay ones are welded. This one was originally grey, maybe like the van it was sitting in originally. Somebody has painted it rather crudely at some point _________________ Westfalia Helsinki 6/77

part number says "trennwand vorderteil seitlich links" 271, m 500, m 529
roughly "separator wall front piece side left"
http://www.volkswagen-classic-parts.de/catalogues/TransporterT2/index-sd.html#/248
here is a picture of M529 in a split bus

I didn't say that. I think a factory install of a sliding glass cab divider in a split would have been spotwelded. |

Yes Uli, thats the picture I found too. Thats a barndoor and the divider looks pretty much like the one I have , but with 3 piece glas and a different handle. All later split models would have an opening for the vent outlet.
Campingbox, I just wanted to say, that I have not seen dividers for splits that have been welded to the B arch. On the other hand have I never seen dividers in bays, that have been screwed in place . That doesnt mean, that it doesnt exist of course.
This divider has been a bit of a mystery to me. But I think the riddle is solved. It is not barndoor, its a non factory installed early T2 ambulance divider, which was fitted NOS to an earlybay panelvan in the sixties/ seventies. Guess the owner in the old days wanted it to be easily reversable and choose to just screw it to the frame. Hence its unmolested condition. The boltholes on the divider are not distributed evenly, but more or less placed randomly. Probably not the way a dealer installed one would look like. He´s probably done it himselv. There are apperently not many baywindow ambulance dividers around, probably because they are a bugger to remove due to 100s of welding spots. Thanks for all inputs. This one is going in my baywindow winter ride... _________________ Westfalia Helsinki 6/77

Yes, 271805423 is in my Bay Window parts book.
271 805 423 - Partition, left, front
271; M 500 M 529
From the Bay Window M-code list:
M 500 = Full-width cab partition with 2-seater passenger seat
M 529 = Sliding window in cab partition (for vehicles with M 500 only) _________________ How to Post Photos

Cheers, Everett. Mystery solved. Its an a little odd looking divider with an unusual history. The last missing link is why the top bit is not double walled, like it is in all latebay ambulance dividers. Maybe its an earlybay oddity and is not supposed to be there or who ever installed this divider in his panelvan in the beginning of time never bothered to use it. Next time I get close to a factory installed in situ earlybay ambulance divider, I will find out ...
