found the carbs loose recently....as in the tops of them loose...and falling off and dad couldnt figure out why no more power... Rolling Eyes....

fixed that!

and proceeded to send it off on a road trip. mom n dad left a day before me, but i left on the 4th and met them later in the evening around ellensburg....story can be read here in maisy's thread

that evening i got to go spend time with dad for the first time in a long time. just me n him, no agenda, no plans, no time rush, so cares, just me n him in his bus with a canoe which we got for free from a nieghbor, and some fishing poles... Smile i dont even like the baiting with a worm or anything, but i like spending time with dad, so i made do with it and really had a great time with him Smile

the next day, we continued to enjoy our father son project together and took off with the canoe and fishing stuff in the bus knowing full well we may not make it due to this:

Link

some retard mechanic (ME) replaced the distributor and didnt notice two timing marks cut into the fan...so he timed the motor nearly 10-15 degrees to far advance and practically murdered this motor...retimed and the knock went away later, but its still on its way out....subaru plans are being hatched...back to the story...

so we hopped on the vantage HWY and took a nice slow drive out to vantage with the bus Smile

we continued.....

crossed the columbia basin and quickly exited the freeway, and after getting gas and lunch at subway, we stumbled on this little fishing hole.

we head back after a short attempt at fishing this little pond (ran out of worms... Sad )taking vantage HWY all the way back. got plenty of time to talk during all this driving. very thankful for the time we get to spend together as father-son. definitely some of my favorite memories, just getting out and enjoying the bus together, not just working on it. Smile true gifts from God.

on our way down, we each took a picture of the other at this spot on the road...can you see sticky?

Bus updates:
today we did (i did) a valve adjust...desperately needed...a bunch were to tight a couple to loose....weird...

pulled the firewall, and hacked a hole into the rear shelf for the fuel gauge sending unit. took the unit apart, and the center rod was heavily corroded...cleaned it off carefully, reinstalled, worked great! fuel gauge now works!

downside is the tank is filthy....stocking up on filters for now, gonna pull the tank when we pull the motor next.

also found a hose for the rear vent elbow...was happy to find the right part in stock locally! Very Happy 7 bucks! ($) but worth having the right part installed...looks much better than a shoddy hose from autozone that doesnt fit right...

also replaced the breather box gasket again, and attempted to tigheten the bale...no luck....ended up jamming a 1/8 inch think piece of metal uner the tab, so its wedged in solidly now. Smile holds that gasket tightly, not leaking for now Smile

well, the gas gauge has been working great, and the engine sucks....rust in the tank is relentless, and the carbs on the engine are absolutely terrible....got a fresh set to toss on soon, just biding my time...

just kidding. need to go get the parts out of my squareback in monroe and put them on. got a bunch of oil leaks to track down too (neverending battle it seams) id be okay with one or two small drips...but this motor pours it all over the place! so ill be digging into that soon Smile

and BEST OF ALL!

found a super legit campsite off a side trail (litterally, not a road) that was absolutely awesome! easily get a good 2-6 busses and a bonfire and be out far enough to get left alone! quite a cool spot, i must say. panoramic shot for effect:

got some time to work on sticky with dad today Smile

he fixed his passenger door not working correctly, the inside latch didnt open right. removed and cleaned the later mechanism and lubed it up, adjusted the pull rod a bit and it opens reliably now Smile (mom was happy to hear this)

he also replaced the right front turn signal housing but not the lens. had a spare sitting in the bus that i picked up at a swap meet and the bulb was out so we took it off to investigate that anyways....so got a new bulb (after testing wiring for 30 minutes before realizing it was just the bulb burned out...) and new metal lens bucket dealio.

i removed the old dash pod and installed a fresh one from Ken at the BusCo:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

note the top ones all busted around the edges, not to mention dirty....

cleaned it all up:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

got a block hole with a glass cover to replace the old hole left by the broken clock we took out...going to see if tram wants to fix it or not Wink

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

until then, the hole is covered Smile

i also fiddled with the carbs trying to get them to be equally fully open at full throttle and then checking at closed (rest) position...i semi succeeded. it runs a bit better...still weak, but has a power gain in 2nd gear it didnt have before, rather then slowing down up the hill, it will actually pick up speed slowly...

also found a work rotor and dirty cap, so tossed in a spare rotor (inside locating tab had wear that allowed the rotor to move around to much) and cleaned the cap and reinstalled. got in to test it...got out to swap 2 and 4 as per my usual, then started it...just the rotor made a big difference...then i did the carbs. now it actually idles on its own again Smile

managed to completely drop on of the driving lights i was going to install on this bus...and shattered the lens Sad

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

so now i only have one...dangit. Evil or Very Mad

also bent dads top support leg a bunch with a paddle from the canoe....dont ask how i just managed to pull a stuart and it bent. on the plus side, the canvas is no longer to tight when putting it up, so its much easier to get the top up Smile on the downside...its massively bent. havent tried to straighten it out yet, but i will eventually.
