|
|
I have complained in another thread about my crappy rear disc brake kit. The pads don't sit square to the rotor and they vibrate and moan badly. I am going to buy another set but I don't want to make the same mistake. My current set is apparently an earlier Empi version. When I bought them the vendor did not mention they were Empi
What are you running with good success
I won't be buying Airkewld. That's alot of cash.
Thanks _________________ 79 super Vert

Are you saying that the caliper is mounted crooked or the caliper bracket is bent? I would suggest solving the issue that you have and save your money.
Not sitting square - Measure the distance from one ear to the blade of the rotor and from the other ear to the rotor. If it is off, fix it by straightening it be tapping it, surfacing it etc. If the castings have casting marks that are allowing th caliper to sit crooked, surface them so they sit flat.
Vibrate - More than likely, it is from the caliper being crooked but you can 45 the edges of the pads to eliminate the sharp edges. Another side of the coin would depend on the master cylinder you are using. If you are using a stock version and they vibrate or moan after you apply or during, you need to upgrade the master to a DISC master. Also having a properly adjusted e-brakes helps with that as well.
Although I would enjoy working with you, if you run our brakes and they do the same thing, the budget was blown for other reasons. Check it out and let me know what you find out. _________________ TheSamba members-only discount - Samba24

The caliper seems to be manufactured out of spec. As it is, the pads hit on the outside of the rotor (outside being the largest diameter portion of the rotor). The inside of the pads are off the rotors by .025-.035". So teh only portion of the pads that hit the rotor is the very outer portion. It marks the rotor about 3/8" width. Also, when the brake pedal is pressed. The caliper flexes and makes the condition worse. Nothing seems to be bent, just poor quality parts. This is the case with the left and right side. I thought about grinding the pads so the outer portion is thinner to make teh pad have full contact with the rotor. But I'd rather have it correct as it should be. This is not a problem that has just acurred. It was this way as installed new. The brackets are stamped steel. but that doesn't make teh pads hit on the outside and not on the inner diameter. As I can tell, it is a function of the caliper itself. If I removed teh caliper from the bracket and pressed teh beake pedal the pads would come together and make contact at the outer portion with no contact at teh inner portion. _________________ 79 super Vert
