My car was apparently an 80's "custom" back in the day and I'm thinking about returning it to its former glory and then some. I'm thinking about doing a backseat-delete with a custom subwoofer box and whatnot. I'd like to see what others have done in their Beetles to get some inspiration. So with that in mind, show me what you guys have done!

Thanks!

Thanks. Funny you mention that because the car used to have painted wide-5 5-spokes that matched it. I did not get them in the sale of the car which is fine since I have another plan.

No rear seat delete pics, anyone?

Let me share a little backstory to the following picture before you look at the picture wondering "why????"
This 1974 Type 1 came to us as a "basket case"with a striped out interior.Me and my wife didnt want to have the interior looking like animals torn it to shreds. My wife had a great idea to use her talents as a mural painter. We arent done yet with the rest of the interior but she is done painting. The roof is painted to look like the night sky with shooting stars.
To those that see "tacky" its ok.I see my beautiful smiling as she was painting.Sorry to be long winded.....Enjoy

I don't have a picture to post since it's been so long since I had my 73, but mine was fairly simple. I stood a 2x4 on edge on the seat rail, and measured out and cut a chunk of 3/4 plywood from the top of that 2x4 to just under the 'lip/channel' of the package tray. Covered it in cheapy black cut pile from wallyworld. It matched the cut pile I had from JBugs pretty well. It was strong enough to hold a couple of unexpected passengers when needed...made a bandpass box to fit directly between the wheel wells the size of the package tray.

Are you going to keep the paint scheme if/when you do the body? It'd be pretty kickass if you did...color-matched 4 lug BRM's would be killer too, even though my guess it probably rocked color matched 8 spokes back in the day. I'm a sucker for 80's/90's customs... Cool Laughing

I'm about to start working on the body. The body is ready to come off for the third time! Laughing The car had 5-spokes on it back in the day, painted to match. I converted the car to 4-lug. I have an entirely different plan for wheels and tires. I do however, plan to re-do the spash paint job in the same colors.

Thanks for the pics and ideas, guys! Please keep them coming. I still need to see some crazy audio setups back there!

I was just showing what can be done with the space behind the seat. The seat does fold down and I would be more than happy to delete the post.

Curious as to the purpose of this setup. Do you have items(oil cooler, turbo, etc mounted above the trans? Any pics from the the back side?

Thanks

Why are the green/blue water drops going backwards (towards the front)? Weird.

I would totally restore and roll that. I grew up in the 80s and wish I could find an old custom like that. Throw some Toyota seats in there and some color matched empi's and you'd be all set Very Happy
