hey Brett, do you recall if your overhaul kit had the Differential pan gasket? Both my tans and diff seals leak, and I am having a real challenge finding what I want

I can't remember now but I think it did come but not sure. The trans guy ordered and the kit and just gave me the left over stuff he didn't use.

Awesome job on this write-up. Thanks.
The 003 is used on the Audis up to mid 70s.
Maybe I missed it, but are the differential gaskets included in one of the 3 overhaul sets available ?
Thanks.

Ask the sellers to spread the kit out and take a picture, so you can see what is included.

I can believe that Audi used these transmission. I have one that is just for parts and it has the Audi symbol embossed on the valve body, yet it came from a 412.

I rebuilt my 73 SB auto trans in 2001 or 02 . I had a spare 72 auto trans that I had cleaned up. All I could find at the time was two gaskets kits . I used the 72 case since it was clean ( worked at a ford dealership at the time) . I lost all forward gears but still had reverse. It happened right after parking the car , backed out put it in drive and nothing.

I pulled mine out took it apart and found the the large C clip holding the clutch packs in popped off. No idea of how many miles were on the car when I bought it in 85 the odometer didn't work .

I used the pump from the 73 and since I didn't have new clutches or bands I chose the best ones and used the ones from the 72 .I bought the complete 72 SB as a parts car and the fellow at U haul mentioned the trans was rebuilt not long ago.

The one thing that concerned me the most was that the bushing in the forward/reverse hub that fits over the pump seals had a few small groves and both tranny's were like this and no one had that bushing.

Then not very long after I rebuilt it I get in after work and I couldn't move forward or back up . I had it towed home and pulled the pan and valve body and found the park pawl lever with the cable, cable has a small ball at the end and it broke off . I took the one from the 72 since it was fine and used it. The 72 had a better way the ball was fastened on the cable , can't recall the details .

I used the 73 valve body but never took it apart found no reason to nothing was burnt up. I used it because the bentley stated they need to match the govener . I never did replace the diff seals couldn't find them either at the time. I won't say anymore in fear I may jinx myself . I have a very small trans leak but can't see where it's coming from . I know it's not the converter seal or the pan it seems to be a bit wet at the filler tube o ring and it seems to blow back onto the bottom of the engine from wind while driving . I really need to clean off what I can to see for certain. I still have another gasket and seal kit for the trans. My only concern is this is my only car so I don't have the option of going over it and do any major stuff . For now I just need to find the leak and hope it's simple and change the fluid . I don't drive it much or far any longer ,66 and retired and broke. I had to drive a 60 mile round trip last monday to get a good used lf rear fender because some idiot pushed in in at the Rite Aid parking lot . It was the first time since 2006 I have been on the freeway let alone drove 60 miles . It did find though I was worried . The most I drive now is 3 miles a week sometime 5 at most and three times a year a 18 mile round trip . I know I need one seal on the diff for the left axle flange I see a bit of gear lube on the left rear shock yet it's not any worse since I did all the fuel lines and tune up in 2009.

Check the performance forum, but I think it's just a different (Bus?) torque converter.

From the ones I've seen, they bolt on a custom differential setup. Of course they do some internal mods to make the shift points match the powerband. I have heard some rumblings and grumblings on some different mods, and I plan on trying some in the future. I'm not running a tach, but after going to bigger valves and carbs on my T4 engine, I am leaving significant power on the table with the stock shift points. If I row the shifter, I can gain about 12 mph above each shift point. After I try it I will do a separate write up.

I know this is an old post but any chance you have a extra valve body around.
Thanks

Sorry, but I don't, in fact I am looking for one (lazily). Just wondering, why do you need one?.

This is awesome! I have a '68 automatic. The first year for the auto. Is it different from the '69? Went to Bulkpart.com. They have the master rebuild kit for '69 and beyond for the Borg Warner 003, but no '68 listed? Want to get a rebuild kit and all in case my resto needs it or to keep for future.

They should all be the same. Most of the kits come with extra gaskets/ parts to allow for the slight variations.

I think the earliest ones have a different system to attach the stub axles to the differential, not sure if the seals there might be different, that would be the only thing
