Kim, congrats on the Roo. Those bends look pretty severe on the guard itself - but I think it'll look cool. There's so many different configurations out there.

Read back a few pages (it was either this Roo bar thread, or the other) I put a bunch of real detailed photos of a configuration a buddy of mine designed.

Two channels were welded to the front frame rails their inner diameter matches the outer diameter of the tubing on the Roo. Four 1/2" holes were drilled across the supports on the Roo, two on each leg. And a cross section of 1/2" OD tubing was welded in place which acts to prevent the tubing and mount from collapsing under pressure when bolted tightly. The rear most section of the legs was chamfered at a 45* angle and welded shut to keep water and debris out. This allows the Roo to hinge down but stops it from hitting the ground.
Detailed pics are in my earlier post. It might give you some ideas.
A lot of folks just bolt it right up I to the frame. I'm not a fan of that because it only mimics protection. If you do hit something, a bolted on Roo won't do anything to defer the impact.
Keep us posted!

Indeed it is; the southernmost baobab in the Kruger National Park.

So, seeing as we've spoke collectively quite a few times on a few folks wanting a rear carrier, I'm curious what people think of this:

http://www.gowesty.com/ec_view_details.php?id=23513&category_id=24024&category_parent_id=

I'm wondering, if one were to square off a 3-4" section off the bumper by making a plate that would be in line with the driver side bumper bracket if it could support this swing away carrier?

If I'm not clear, say so and I'll sketch it out. Lol

I will ask my fabricator what it will cost to reproduce the top section. I still need to have the mounting bars fabricated and figure out with him the best way to mount them. The top sections of bars that I have are original Sopru Roo Bars from Australia.

Damn, we got some sexy buses Pat.

Tons have people have asked me if they could trace my bars to replicate.
No one has as of yet. I'm not interested, as I don't have the ability to make them even once they're traced. But if someone is interested, come on by.

I have a Roo Bar that I'll be happy to sell. It needs paint and you need to be close to San Diego because shipping would be impossible.
Fits early Bays.

It was built for our '69 and I **think** it would fit 68-70. Don't know about '71 with the different brakes (& beam?). '74 with all the changes in crush zones made in '73 I really doubt it.

Did we ever determine if we had the correct dimensions for crafting up our own Roos?
I have a fab guy here in town, I'm thinking about with the needed dimensions of the OG templates, having him weld me one up. Or I mean, I could just buy one.....maybe?

There's a ton of different style Roos, and without fail if you invest any effort to building one someone will tear it apart.
Cyruus did a kick ass job with his, and they're built to stand up but still, you saw what he had to go through.
I'd love to see someone pick up where he left off.
I anticipate it will be expensive to get started though.
