Foolishly nicked a coolant hose with a grinder Sad

Anyone had experience with this? ...do you think there is a chance it might leak?

Of course I could cut it and re-connect with a coupler.

I'd say I lost 1mm or material, and the hose thickness is 4mm.
Any kind of durable patch I can put on there?

Here is cross-section of the hose (small heater hose there for comparison). I guess if the heater hose is only 3mm then if my 4mm main hose gets knocked to 3mm it would still be OK?

Id not be worried, you didnt come close to hitting the reinforcement cords. that hose could probably take ten times the pressure you will expose it too, a loss of less than 25% thickness with cords intact should be of no concern.

carry on!!!!!

I had a cv boot wear through one of my coolant hoses... Forgot I loosened one of the hangers and drove home.

This is the hose I got... It says the "working pressure" is 4bar (15psi = 1bar).
It says 40bar "disturbance pressure" but really don't know what that means.

Anyway for sure my hose is rated at 4X the needed pressure. Anyway I will bring a few 32mm couplers with me on trips just to be sure.

my guess would be disturbance pressure would be burst pressure.

Anyhow as you said, the hose is strong.
In the worst case the cure is simple > but kinda sad to nik my brand new hose :

That is a point in case for using SS pipes over rubber hose I guess.

I'd leave it like that... but if you want a prevention that ease your mind, wrap it with Rescue Tape

I'd leave it. Consider it a "fuse" for an overpressure condition in the cooling system. Wink
