I have a '67 s.c. truck that recently became pretty difficult to steer, the steering box feels good with no excess play but the truck's steering is
very stiff compared to my '71 westy which is very easy to steer.any
suggestions on what to look for? appreciate any help. |

When you say "recently" does that mean it came on suddenly or over a period of time? |

Narrow down where the binding is happening. Is it in the steering box? Spindles? Something rubbing or binding in the draglink or tierods? Perhaps the pivot pin? The steering system is quite simple. I would start by lifting up the front end. Get an idea of how the steering feels off the ground. Start at one end of the steering system. Disconnect the drag link (steering box end) or tierods (spindles). Working your way from one end to the other, disconnect one componet at a time until you eliminate the binding. Thats how I would aproach it. |

I'm glad it just needed some grease and you didn't need to go through the advice I gave earlier. I tend to overcomplicate things sometimes. I once tore apart a carburetor during a snowstorm in a parking lot when my bug quite running. I was thinking to myself "why am I not getting any fuel?" Then it dawned on me, "you idiot, you ran out of gas." I kicked over the fuel tap and away I went. |
