I just spent an hour reading through your entire thread. It was like driving by an accident-you don't want to look but you have to. I love it! How much have you spent so far? _________________ 1957 Oval Window

Thanks! I think...
I haven't kept track as well as I had planned....but the transformation from boring blue bus to Tacky Tiki Bus has cost somewhere between $200-$400....but my wife feels it is really on the lower end of this range....this includes exterior paint and all of the interior "décor"....lots of clearance stuff, coupons at AC Moore, use of stuff we already had on hand....and lots and lots of man-hours....and brains that won't shut off....
Glad you enjoyed it.

Just had to quote this, because if your brain shuts off, you are dead.
I have personally enjoyed watching what you've done. Very creative. I hope you will continue to refine it and make it even more tacky tiki. |

Thanks guys. No plans on stopping...although I guess there is a limit to how much you stuff you can put in the bus....but refining is a good term...some of what we have done is to see what works and what doesn't....and not spending much money allows for redoing stuff if it doesn't work or we change our minds or whatever.
I agree that the world needs more Tacky Tiki Bus stuff...or at least more of that kind of attitude....I always say that I take my work seriously, whether it is my "real" job or one of my hobbies....but that I don't take myself too seriously....and I really think people need to be more like that....
More to come.

The bottle opener....I have no idea where I got it...yard sale? been in one of my toolboxes for years.....

No pics....
Had to do some real work on the Tacky Tiki Bus...
Ended up with a new aftermarket in dash ignition switch to replace the old in dash switch....
New starter solenoid....(the real culprit)
New engine lid seal....
Hopefully some more Tiki tackiness soon.
May even take it to a local cruise night....that may be interesting.

I did the same, hence the steering paint above. I just thought the cheap plastic ignition switch was way too cheezy for all that work in replacing so I did this:
security system and starter toggle switch:

Well, no new tikiness, but more "real" work.
Even with the new starter solenoid...still had to install the "hot start" relay.
oil/filter change.
Progressive carb tuning and intake/carb heating "modifications".
Wire/install cool power outlet for "modern conveniences"
Test ride with "little buddy" style heater....maybe a couple of pics soon.
