PostPosted: Tue Oct 09, 2012 10:13 pm    Post subject: Interior is done !! Reply with quote

The Bus interior is mostly all done. Today I went by to wrap it up. I installed the wipers, backup lens and bezel, installed the wheels/tires, then I laid down the floor mat on the seat hold down bolts to make the appropriate holes in the mat. After that was done I bolted the middle seat in and that's a wrap! Finally!! I calculate approximately 120 hours into the interior project. Of course I don't really know what i'm doing and probably spent about 40 hours searching for misplaced nuts and bolts. If I learned just one thing, If I ever do this again I'm going to remove everything myself and bag every screw and mark them as I go along. So now the Bus will go in for a little adjustment to the front end to bring it down a little more. It has never been right since I picked it up. Then back to the body shop for a little touch-up and to have the Bumpers installed. It might be a while for all that to happen but I will post the pics as soon as it's done.
I hope everyone enjoyed this topic. It's coming to an end shortly I've learned a lot and I hope I provided a little entertainment and inspiration during all this. Thanks for looking at my topic. Stay tuned for at least one more installment

I have to say, at first I was bummed someone was going to hack that sweet OG paint. At this point I'm now excited to see someone do such a nice stock/classic treatment. So props to you for really doing it up!

I do have some questions:
What are you doing about the rear seat-belts? I know CA can be strict on that…
What have you done mechanically with the bus? Surely with a budget like that you can show us some of the guts Wink

I still prefer the og look, but yes, this makes it much easier to take. Smile

I'd love to see "what makes it go" as well!

OK, busted!! I have been trying to convince my boss to build a nice mild 2.0l motor for the Bus but he won't do it! The STOCK 1600dp that's in the Bus runs very good but "if it were mine" I'd definetely want to build a little fire under the Bus. Honestly with all the effort spent on the interior i have not yet attended the DETAIL of the engine bay. I really am not pleased with that area of the bus other than to say that it really does run well. So anyway, when I post the latest pictures with the bumpers and all I will make sure I include engine photos as well. Oh and about the the rear seat belts, I have the most rear seat belts but not the bolts yet and I haven't yet found the proper middle seat belts yet.
On another note, I took the Bus home yesterday and washed it for the first time since it was painted and then took it to the store where I work to drop it off for now. When my boss came in and drove it for the first time... He was ecstatic about it. He absolutely loved it. So for now that's it. Come back here soon for another installment.

Is this bus still around? Love to see some "completed" pics. I am getting ready to get started on the body of my '71. Suspension should be done very soon.

Well if it helps, you can tell you spent 120 hours just on the interior, the bus looks unreal!
