Looks pretty. Shame they didn't repaint the rear trunk area.

Summer is now officially gone, 4C/40F today despite sunny day, so it's time to do something to T34 again.

We didn't get it registered this summer as it has starting problems (weak starter/something else) and a car like that isn't fun to use at all.

Then summer came and we don't work on cars on summer if it can be avoided, otherwise we've never time to drive them. Summer here in North is short and winter long.

But I managed to find a factory refurbished starter for it and I'll test it later in autumn.

Currently busy with my latest project, a -62 barn find Beetle I bought in July. Managed to get motor running and it moving by its own in a weekend, but brakes need total overhaul before trying to get it inspected and that's going on now, starting with rear brakes.

PO bought the car in 1969, she had it 52 years. Although it was left in the barn in 2001 when it didn't pass inspection, because brake problems, and had been sitting since then, 20 years.

Haven't found rust holes yet, but found some backyard patches and lot of gravel/sand/clay as the PO was living by a gravel road.

On-going project log in

http://kharon.suomiforum.com/www/kupla2/

if anyone is interested. Currently in Finnish only, but pictures tell a lot.

Congratulations on a nice find... if that's original paint it came back to life beautifully.

Thanks. Smile

it's a repaint, but it wasn't old when it was left sitting. We'll see.

Hey folks. Looks like things have gotten a little quiet in here. I just read this entire thread. Why? Well, yesterday I bought a very original 1965 T34. It's never been messed with and is VERY original. Very small amounts of surface rust and nothing serious. Interior is in extremely good condition.

I'll be leaving the car alone and preserving. It's been parked inside (likely it's entire life) and off the road since at least 1997 so I've got some work ahead of me on the fuel and brake systems before it's back on the road. Yesterday was a multi hour ordeal unsticking the brakes enough to get it to roll....

I'm sure I'll have questions as I dig in. Hopefully I don't need to buy to many T34 specific parts.

Winter hibernation in forum as most people have their cars done, no projects on-going and typically T34-projects take many years because of a) rust and b) missing parts ... proper T34 parts aren't easy to find.

But: What colour? Where are the pics? (Just like the others said, you have to have at least some pics.)

(A note to myself: Forum shows my local time (1:35PM) as posted-time. No idea if it's adjusted to each user location, but it would make sense.)

Yes. Smile

Thank you very much!

There's a lot of work, but almost everything is there, as far as I can see.

We've been working on our '61 bus, so commenting to here has been really slow.

It's now patched and painted and waits at painter for a nice weather so I could trailer it to home.

Couple of pics from the painter:

Yeah, I think it's pretty complete too, but also very rusty.

The bus looks good though. Nice work on it. Cool

Thanks!

Haven't summed up the cost yet and I think I don't do that until it's all done. But several thousands for minor body work and paint alone.

Paint preparation (for really good paint) is *really* slow work and therefore expensive. I think it was worth it, though. At least after a while when pain in the wallet falls off a bit.

Fortunately the spare parts are dirt cheap for a bus and not many are needed, so the rest shouldn't cost much.

It's a bit slow here so let me continue a bit about the van .... please flame for OT if necessary.

Finally got weather suitable for transporting it into our own garage, ~150 miles away.

Almost all small parts have now been sandblasted and painted too, so it just needs some assembly. Piece of cake. Smile

Some pics:

Oh: Something which actually belongs to here:
I was crawling under T34 the other day and realized that ground strap between gear box and body isn't there. Oops.

No wonder it won't start with starter, not enough power to turn the engine at speed ... obviously lacks proper grounding ... at least that. We'll see once I buy a new one.

Can someone post a detailed picture on their foglight out and where the screw to mount the foglight through the bottom ring should go?

I haven't restored a gauge in a long time. The T34 is a little special in that the trim ring is crimped and needs a special bit of tweaking to get off without totally jacking it up. I started with the gas gauge and picked the crappiest one to practice on. It turned out great and is a keeper. I moved onto the speedo, last Ill do the clock.

The line up next to a replica tach. Getting paint that exactly matches the new part was an added surprise.

just got the facebook reminder that I sold my T345 10 years ago, Frank Beck was passing through with a race car truck and trailer, picked it up to go to Gunnar racing in Florida. Kevin always wanted a "goofy ghia with the sunroof" I guess he had Jerry Garcia's bus, restored the worlds most expensive car, etc. Would love to see how it ended up, next Florida trip I will have to hit up the museum
