Papers off so you can see whole chassis and door with first paint (2 layers). We'll do buffing when the paint is totally dry, after few months as we've no hurry with this car.

Seats need rebuilding and seat frames needs to painted so there's still work to do before starting assembly.
Engine is also still in pieces, we haven't yet even checked how bad the old parts are.
Odometer says about 77 thousand kilometers and if that's the first round engine should be in relatively good shape, just replace the wearing parts and that's that.
Rebuild anyway, doesn't make sense to skip that. Possibly slightly larger engine too, something like 1584cc (aka '1600'). _________________ Kharon -- '62 typ1, '63 typ14, '61 typ21, '65 typ34, '74 412, '75 typ26

Thanks.
More or less just work so far, but the interesting part will be getting it all together. We've a big pile of pictures about how it was but there's always something which isn't clear.
I've whole wiring loom on the floor currently, the idea is to measure/verify all the wires, clean the connectors with citrid acid and replace anything that looks it won't last another 20 years.
AFAIK there's no such thing as a new wiring set for T34 so repaired/refreshed old one has to do. Fortunately original wires are high quality and some previous owner has already replaced many connectors. But yellow jacket insulated crimped connectors, ouch ... those must go and original style (uninsulated) will be used instead. _________________ Kharon -- '62 typ1, '63 typ14, '61 typ21, '65 typ34, '74 412, '75 typ26

T34 upholstery material blue cerulean
Is this material still available as reproduction. I found out that this was reproduced around 10 years ago but no news after that.

Thank you I will contact them.
This is a piece from under the rear seat that most like has not faded or changed color in the sun and it also looks more green than blue. So I think that the greenish tint is more accurate than the blue.

Thanks and I didn't!
I've the trim and the clips and everything, what happened is that we forgot to drill the holes to rocker panel before painting them. Ouch.
Fortunately we do have large pieces of original panel left so we get the position right.
Also an update: We lifted the body on the frame and it sits like it was made for it. Already bolted down and the car looks almost like drivable. No steering though as steering column and related parts are missing.
(Pics will follow later.)
Wiring set is still on my floor, engine is in pieces and most of the interior needs more or less cleaning/repairing/rebuilding.
Well, winter is just coming, no hurry.
But one thing we did, a modification: The pipe the wiring set was going through was basically rusted away so we had to create a new one from scratch anyway, so we made it 10mm larger than the original, now (if I recall correctly) 40mm.
Much easier to install wiring set back and it's not really visible anywhere. No idea why the original was so small, there's plenty of room. _________________ Kharon -- '62 typ1, '63 typ14, '61 typ21, '65 typ34, '74 412, '75 typ26

I'd be tempted to use some kind of adhesive instead of drilling holes, but at least use spray wax if you haven't already |
Paint into holes and rust proofing to every box we can find. Currently we've Tectyl 558 on plans but that may change. Basically anything similar we can find will do as this car is not driven in wintertime.
We may have to drill some new holes for rustproofing so some re-painting will most probably be needed anyway. It would have been easier when the car was in pieces but we forgot that too.

Those pieces look like the ones Peaceful Warrior (Brian) had made up about 6 or 7 years ago. Don't know if he has any left. He's also not here in the t-3 forums any more, but he still has a bus or 2, so you might find him in there. Last time I talked to him on the phone, he hadn't moved yet, and was still working on 1 of his buses. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

We didn't do basically anything in summer, other projects and driving around while the season lasts. Engine to pieces, block to machine shop and wiring under work etc. small things.
But some new details:
http://kharon.suomiforum.com/www/ghia3/P9191310.JPG
http://kharon.suomiforum.com/www/ghia3/P9191307.JPG
http://kharon.suomiforum.com/www/ghia3/P9191306.JPG
Engine just came back from machine shop, needs just new bearings and some assembly: All parts are already painted.
Wiring set pulled to pipe and installation of electrical stuff can begin.
Rims sandblasted and painted, new tyres needs to be sourced as old ones are very old. Shouldn't be a problem.
What we need is new carpets (didn't have them in the first place) and interior roof. The latter fortunately is standard VW light beige vinyl and we can use old roof as template.
Ordered charcoal carpet set for my small Karmann (typ14) from Newton Commercial and once those arrive we decide if we order similar set for this one. I've heard they make high quality stuff and price *cough cough* is reflecting that, £612 (incl. VAT) for typ14.
Seat frames need sandblasting and paint but canvas should be OK just by washing.
That leaves some chrome parts to be re-chromed and many rubber parts we have only in very poor condition and no replacements for now.
Those will be headache at some point. _________________ Kharon -- '62 typ1, '63 typ14, '61 typ21, '65 typ34, '74 412, '75 typ26
