Since my 1582 is in the 3rd round of assemble I thought I'd start on the Pepco 36 engine.
the specs;
Standard crank bore 57 beetle case
WW 69.5 stroker crank
AA 80 Porsche pre A p/l with Total seal rings and custom cylinder hone
WW Okrassa heads with bigger valves installed , beehive valve springs
Speedwell Pepco supercharger with a 40 DCOE Weber sidedraft or a 40P11 or a Zenith
Speedwell cam follower cups with chrome alloy pushrods or 356 push rods
Speedwell 1.40 rocker assemblies
Custom H beam chevy journal rods ( we think we figured out how to make them fit without grinding the crank)
Special cam grind by WEB camshaft on a new blank
I machined the heads yesterday, flycut, decked and opened for the 80's.
I had to take the top fin off
Next week the new valve seats get installed so I can get the valves made and start on the porting work. The red clay in the head is where we might weld the chamber
This was the final cut on the deck so the 80mm liners will seat in the heads
Today I start on the case, open it up for the 80's, full flow, do the Tom Bruchs internal case clean-up, install case savers.
Can't wait to get the cam and rods back so I can see what needs to be done to make them fit!

Got the H beam, 5.325" chevy journal rods back, made to fit a WW 36hp
stock crank (hope it works). Crank, flywheel and pp are going to Geoff Harts for a balance job and cam should be back from WEB in 2 weeks.
Rocker assemblies 1.25 and 1.40 should be here from SPEEDWELL by the time the cam shows up.
Heads should be back next week also.
Didn't have time to work on the case yet as my other engine has been messing with me and I've upgraded a few components in it.
While I wait for all these goodies I'll start on the intake system for the PEPCO _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"

The supercharged engine heads are ready for porting now, new seats installed, PAC springs and ti retainers are here, Ferrea valves being ordered tomorrow, heads should be together in 2 weeks.
Got the chevy journal 5.325 h beams ros to work on the stock WW 69.5 crank, just waiting on Web Camshafts to finish grinding the cam so I can work on rod to cam clearance.
In themeantime I'm going to mock up a 36hp block to start making the intake for the Pepco supercharger. I have 6 weeks to have this engine done. _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"

New 35.5X33 seats in, matched the head to the seats and now time for hand porting, UGH! New valves from Ferrea will be here next week so the heads can be assembled. Time to start working on the intake for the supercharger

Hello-
Do you mind if I ask what you use for a cam blank? Do you use a 36HP or a 356 blank? If you're using 36HP cams, do you have to weld them to get enough "meat" on the blank?
Cheers,

1 step closer, balancing crank assembly. All my head parts are here so we can get the heads done. Been doing some machine work and rebuilding on some of the Cheetles parts, need to keep them safe at 150mph plus, so me time has been limited.

Awesome build!
Do the AA 80mm pre-A cylinders have a larger wall thickness over the 40hp 83mm big bore sets?
Are those cylinders biral or cast iron?
Thanks!

I just measured the AA 80 mm and a set of NOS 83 mm NPR's
the 80 mm AA cylinder wall is 3.91 mm or technically 4.00
the 83 mm NPR's 3.44 mm 3.50 _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"

Good info! Thanks guys.
Pity AA is out of stock with the 80mm pre-A cylinders/piston sets. _________________ '75 SB 1303 2,4ltr T4 turbo: 10.58 @ 129.9mph

i would use 83mm all the time!
i have still 80's kolbenschmidt without cylinders for 20mm pin.
make 1500cc barrels fit to case and heads plus the rest of machinework and it's a really good start with bigger valves.
if you want them walter give me a call.
little teaser from the last supercharger setup we are working since 2 years:

I would actually only be wanting 80mm cylinders, not the pistons
What wall thickness are your 83mm big-bore 40hp cylinders Chris? _________________ '75 SB 1303 2,4ltr T4 turbo: 10.58 @ 129.9mph

nono. i use 83mm 1500 typ1 liners opened to 84mm. but the base of the typ1 83mm liners are very good in my eyes and easy to get (1-20 euro ebay, machined to what i like)
now you see why i have the 1641cc turbo typ1
