The two pins are fake, the stamps most likely are original and I know nothing about the youth knife Very Happy

Paid a couple hundred bucks for all these items and the frame below. I guess I will probably put the stamps up for sale to pay everything. Would they be worth more all together or individual?

Inside the frame looks like they pulled the covers off a book, you can see the seems and stables still in it. The guy had lots of german war stuff but this was the only VW stuff.

Sure would be a shame if some one actually ripped the cover off a real
KDF sales brochure.

Like I said in my post above . . . . . . "the stamps most likely are original" Wink

There are even repro stamps available that are very hard to identify unless you compare the loose stamps to stamps that are glued into an original KdF Savers card Exclamation

I was informed that this block set of green KdF Wagen stamps were repros.

Take a look at the perforation holes being way off and different sizes.

The way to tell real stamps is to look for the DAF watermark along the white borders. They're not easy to see and you may need a magnifying glass and some good lighting.

If the stamps are going for $50, what is a completed savings book going for?

All Right Exclamation Exclamation

I have had the opportunity getting involved in the Vintage VWs since 1970 and having living and worked in Germany then and in 1980, although I am an American, I am originally from the US Zone , Germany.

I have picked up many of the Kdf Sparkarte books for my collection before repros were ever thought about.

Typically, the KdF books contained the stamps that were purchased weekly as a minimum and cancelled in the books with writing the date of purchase on the stamp.

Savers could also buy as many stamps as the wanted if they could afford to and complete the program early.

Here is a book in which a full set of 50 stamps were purchased and cancelled on March 30, 1944 Exclamation

Some of the original books had stamps but were not cancelled and looking at the book and stamps, you can only tell they are original.

So I always question these separate KdF Savers stamp being sold, especially in blocks, without any authenticity, are they repros or what Question

So this original KdF Sparkarte shown with 50 original stamps at $50 a stamp . . . . . . please send me a PM if you are interested in buying it for $2500 (free postage).

As Blue Baron mentioned, check for the watermarks. Here are some close up pics....they are very difficult to photograph with a clear shot of the DAF watermark. The last pics are taken under a UV light.
If you click on the pics, you might see a larger version.

If you chopped up your book and sold the stamps individually you might
get that price. Those of us who buy the single stamp for $50 are those
who can only afford a small part of history, Not the whole book for $400.

I's a case of the sum of the parts being worth more than the whole
If I had such a book I would NEVER chop it up though.

And yes authentication is always a problem

Hi Richard,

Back in the early 1980s, I became an acquaintance with a Dr. B. Wiersch through my involvement with the Vintage Volkswagen Club of America.

He was the Director of the VW Stiftung Auto Museum in Wolfsburg for many years.

When I met Dr. Wiersch for first time at the Stiftung Auto Museum, he gave me this KdF Savers card as a gift.

BTW . . I was also joking selling the KdF Savers card for $2,500 (way too pricey) as it is a keepsake from my meeting.

Sometimes you can find a KdF Savers card full of stamps for sale on German eBay for $250 to $300+ depending on the condition.

Seems kind of crazy for a museum to stamp an original piece with its own logo. It's supposed to preserve the authenticity of the piece, not deface it.

I had to research your question 79SuperVert.

In 1938, the idea of the German worker owning a KdF Wagen through a savings program was reality.

About 700,000 German workers participated in the program of which about 336,000 had completed the KdF Savers program.

However, not a single worker received a KdF Wagen as the KdF Wagen production was used for Nazi Party Officials or military use.

In 1950, a group of KdF Savers pressed claim for credit towards purchase towards a Volkswagen, which by that time had become a reality. Their claim was in court for 12 years and a settlement was reached in October 1961. A complete KdF Savers card holder would receive 600 post war Deutsche Marks credit towards the purchase of a new Volkswagen. This credit would amount to about $150 towards a $1,300 VW Sedan back then.

To receive the credit, the person presented a completed KdF Savers Card or Certificate and these documents became property of Volkswagen.

Unfortunately, because of the huge volume of documents received, most of the documents were destroyed. Some documents were saved for historical purposes residing in the Stiftung Auto Museum. Sad but true Crying or Very sad

In order for me to legally receive the KdF Savers Card from VW as a gift, it had it be stamped by the Stiftung Auto Museum.

Actually Bob's original price on the stamp books is not far off if you take into account the the date of completion. I have a completed book (orange stamps) for a cabriolet dated July 6, 1939 with all stamps KDF cancelled and all 15 insurance stamps also hand cancelled, that I would not sell for $2000. Wink

I don't do photos Bob. I still use film. Wink I'll see if my daughter can take some pictures for me and then I'll send out a link. (I'll get her to come over in the next couple of days.) I've been told that this is the only complete 1939 card known. I've owned it for 20+ years. I was certain you saw it at the Classic Toy and Lit show a couple of years back..??? (same year you presented me with that wonderful Hebmuller badge Very Happy )
