Thanks to everyone for the nice comments !
@dmuis : The Canadian script is missing but for sure it used to have one, we can still clearly see it. But maybe it's have been added later in the 50's by a VW dealer...
@DanM & Everett : I asked once or twice to Bill what happened but he just answered me "Oooh it was a terrible accident you know, i have been at the hospital 9 months and doctors said i will never walk again !!"... so I don't really know, but i will try to ask again next time i talk to him.
Also, we can see on the next picture that the bulkhead is bended behind the driver... To explain me how hard was the crash he said me that this is the shape of his back that we can see there....
Maybe have you seen the bus has an accessory front bumper guard on the front, here is another nice one that i've never seen before :

On question 2 I know of at least one maybe two older North American VW imported buses.

So, help me out here.
This is either :
1. The first Deluxe bus in Canada.
2. The first Deluxe bus in North America
or
3. The first ever Deluxe bus.
I'm guessing that the answer is "1.", but if its 2 or 3, please let us know.
Thanks,
j. |
Correct on #1
Possibly on #2
No on #3 |

Last week have been very stressfull 'cause the container arrived in France, but the customs didn't want to let the bus enter in the country.
They said it was only a junk, unrestorable, and as we can't import junks it will have to be destroyed ( ).... I have had to convince the chief of the customs department of Le Havre that this bus has a huge historical value and a lot of potential and after a few days it's have been accepted
It's now arrived at home and it's a huge pleasure to finally see it here...

Customs should not exist for old cars! I will follow your restoration.
Bon courage.

Wow, one of the most amazing vw stories I have read in quite some time. What a great bit of detective work and rescue, congrats!! Lots of rare vw tin still being unearthed in Canada. I found my 53 zwitter here near Toronto in 2004. Keep us posted on the progress.
Where in Ontario was this bus found?

Good job getting it through Customs!
Interesting thing about that is that it just one more sentence in the book of the life, near death, rescue and subsequent resurrection of this iconic bus.
Keep writing new paragraphs Florian.

Also, i received this morning a 52 Brochure which i think fit pretty well the bus.
All the VW models are shown inside, but i especially love the tittle :
Maybe they have been distributed on the CNE ! |
Can someone enlighten me what a "midget bus" is?....as seen on the cover of your old vw booklet? _________________ Check out my truck brought back from the dead... http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=420762&highlight=sprayed+blood
